Album Notes
This song is called "For Me". To me, it really tells the story of the way I imagine I might feel as a defenseless child to live in a forgotten, desperate, dangerous part of the world, knowing that in far away places, other children are thriving. I wonder if the ones who do survive grow older with a sense that they somehow don't deserve the same kind of life that they know others have, far away, with plenty of food and safety and medicine and education. I have always loved the hot meal solution that Outside the Bowl brings to communities because it includes such a sense of permanence, a new hope with a strong foundation, and a physical manifestation of God's great love. I sometimes wonder how many times an aching belly is filled with warm food before a child actually begins to believe that it's real. I wonder how many times they wake up in the morning thinking this is the day the new food will stop coming. I wonder if they notice the exact day they start thinking more clearly, or their flesh starts growing in around their bones, or their hair starts to grow in properly. I wonder when they realize they're going to live.

I think we all can feel like that sometimes, though. Even if we aren't starving to death physically; don't we all need a greater love in order to feel like we're going to survive this life? Haven't we all been let down by people so often that sometimes we feel like we might be worthless? Nobody is always dependable; everyone lies. We've all been promised something that never happened. If you've ever felt like you've been forgotten, or rejected, or you're not worth the love that everyone else seems to find, then this song is for you. Completely for you.
