ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Based in the New Orleans area, but with members from the Dominican Republic, the U.S., and Honduras, Palo Viejo has received critical acclaim for both their energy and originality. The first single ‘Brinca’ is currently in the top ten in the Domincan Republic and the group is coming off their recent performances at the South by Southwest Music Conference. “It’s been a great year for us,” explains vocalist Angelina de los Rosarios López. “We’ve been on the road and working hard but it’s all been worth it.”

With influences from bands like Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, The Police, and Juan Luis Guerra, Palo Viejo creates an infectious fusion of ska with rock and merengue. “We call it ska-rengue” reveals Paul Vega, the group’s guitarist. Palo Viejo has performed across the country from California, to Texas and New York in support of their independent release, ‘Estás Aquí Ahora’, recorded in the studio of Devon Kirkpatrick [Jennifer López, Julio Iglesias]. In the course of their wanderings, they have shared the stage with the likes of international recording artists Los Abandoned, Gecko Turner, Circo, and Plastilina Mosh. Lamusica.com selected Palo Viejo as one of the bands to watch in Latin Alternative and the Houston Press opines “…the band's sound [is] highly accessible, conjuring a female fronted Police or, perhaps, a Latino answer to Gwen". The group was voted one of the bands of the year by the listeners of Batanga.com and also featured in Boom Alterlatina Magazine. After seeing the band’s New York performance, Boom editor Kike Posada wrote “…I lost my head. What force and energy!”

Unique! Lyrics and sounds are rhythmic, energetic and ready to explode into a "M
I love this CD. From the cover to the lyrics to the beats it has. A unique blend of different instruments make Palo Viejo distinctive and one of a kind. Seems like the group has spiced things up witht their cultural backgrounds. LOVIN' IT EVERYDAY, GOOD LUCK!!

Palo Viejo's latest CD rocks hard! The songs have awesome beats and rhythms, that will get stuck in your head... The lyrics are pure poetry.

el sonido que no puedes definir pero sabes que te gusta
I took a chance on this CD because I've been hearing more and more about this group in recent months. A friend caught their show at Over the Border in San Diego and couldn't say enough good things. After listening a couple times I'd say this is a pretty good album with many good songs, Barataria, Solo Una Vez and Flamenco Caribe standing out for me in particular. Palo Viejo gives me the impression of what a collaboration between pre-blonde Shakira and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs would sound like. The production of the CD could have been better but notheless the music is surprisingly good for such an unknown group. It's as good as anything (and better then most) that’s been released in the genre of Latin alternative in the past years .
Palo Viejo has well gained the title of “el sonido que no puedes definir pero sabes que te gusta”.
