ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Rather than multiplying clearly circumscribed and incommensurable world models, that are open to manipulation by anyone with a superior understanding of the modeling process and its effects on the lives of those who engage in it (the path taken by the entrepreneurial cultures of the new economy, giving rise to highly sophisticated productive devices of the control society in which most forms of artistic creativity are now caught and instrumentalised for financial, ideological and military purposes), I am practising and creating outside of the world laboratory and beyond the notion of 'experimental epistemology', searching for an ecological understanding of the inter dependency of living beings (after Brian Holmes, 2008, in Treisler, 2012, p. 41).

During my live performance I reflect on the gift of now as an eternal fleeting present, exploring shamanic ritual and transcendent spiritual healing with a focus on relieving suffering and attaining balance through improvisation, chance, personal life experience and self expression. Conjuring up a symbiotic seance with acoustic and vocal instruments, I also express satyagraha and protests against injustices to humanity through kaleidoscopic electronic and visual projections to transform normal everyday moments into grandiose anarchic artistic landscapes of shimmering iridescence and suspense, from outwardly extreme bursts of noise to my ambient nature and gnosis in silent pellucidity

Handpicked and recorded by legendary producer Gordon Raphael (the Strokes, Regina Spektor, Skin) of Shoplifter Records in 2009 I have worked and played with some amazing musicians, artists, filmmakers, and all kinds of people over the years, including David Cross of King Crimson, David Jackson of Van der Graaf Generator, and I met and played my song 'Overcome' to Sir Paul McCartney in 2005. My music has also been recorded and produced by Steve Powell (John Power). I have had radio airplay from Seattle to Berlin and have played gigs along the way with Bilgepump, Fionn Regan, Bird Names, the Zutons, the Wombats, CatsandCatsandCats, Anna-Lena Bludau, the Canoeman, Cedarwell, Martin Tetzlaff, the Michelles, Sarah Maguire, Konveyor, Go Faster, Puzzle, Joe Keelan, the Sonic Hearts, the House that Jack Built, Emily and the Faves, Katie Blundell, Peter and the Wolf, John Smith, Metro Manila Aide, Eighth Day Army, Day with Mary, Peppermint Pigs and Ortolans!

I play live with guitar, mic, drums, array of pedals and loopers, harmonica, mandolin, feet percussion, and voice (and sometimes harp).

I have made lots of home made experimental & often kaleidoscopic videos. Some of these films can be found at http://www.youtube.com/user/PaulMcDowell/videos

I also write poetry, films, and streams of consciousness, and have composed music for a film called 'Menilmontant', which can be seen and heard on my youtube channel. I am currently creating my first feature length film, called 'the Strait Jacket', expecting it to be released later in 2013, and am also recording and producing my third full length album, 'Time Fantasy, Dream Reality' this year.

Upon purchasing 'Songs of Innocence and Experience' I will be happy to email you my second album 'Menilmontant' free of charge, if you wish.
