ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The World-Premiere Musical, "Daddy Long Legs" based on the classic novel by Jean Webster, was developed as part of the Ann Deal/Fashion Forms® Plays-in-Progress Program at Rubicon Theatre Company of Ventura, California in 2008. The World Premiere opened on October 17, 2009 at Rubicon who then joined forces with TheatreWorks, Palo Alto, California and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park to further develop and fully produce the show. "Daddy Long Legs" has played to standing ovations at every single performance on its current tour where it has also broken Box-Office records.

The Story of "Daddy Long Legs":
In turn-of-the-century New England … Jerusha Abbott is the “Oldest Orphan in the John Grier Home” until, one day, a mysterious benefactor decides to send her to college to be educated as a writer. Required to write him a letter once a month (to practice her literary skills), she is never to know the benefactor’s identity—so she invents one for him: Daddy Long Legs. Although she knows he will never respond to her letters, she grows more and more fond of this elusive and kindly “old” gentleman and begins to think of him as the grandfather she never had. But soon another relationship begins to develop in Jerusha’s life. Jervis Pendleton is the well-do-do “youngish” uncle of one of Jerusha’s roommates who introduces her to a world of literature, travel and adventure. Through her correspondence with Daddy Long Legs and her growing intimacy with Jervis, Jerusha’s letters chronicle her emergence as a delightfully independent “New American Woman.” Yet there is one startling fact about these two gentlemen that Jerusha has yet to uncover—a fact that will change her life forever.

The original production and this recording, stars Robert Adelman Hancock (National Tour of "Mama Mia!") and Megan McGinnis (Broadway star of "Little Women", "Les Misérables", James Joyce’s "The Dead", "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and "Beauty and the Beast").

Amazing
I saw this show twice and listening to this cast recording is like going back and seeing it again. It has been on my daily playlist for over a year and I have no intention of taking it off. Every note is perfect and the singers really bring the acting into their performance of each song. Paul Gordon is a wonderful song writer and matches up his brilliant lyrics with an even more brilliant score. You do not want to miss out on this gem of a musical, already up for 7 LA Ovation Awards.
