ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
press:
"What distinguishes pearlmerchant's music from most of the stuff I've heard lately is that they opt for lush orchestrations and textures, with violins and percussion adding an exotic flavor to their original tracks. I'm talking about a concept that marries gorgeous poetry with non-formulaic structure, unique rhythms, stringed instruments, Middle-Eastern flair and soaring vocals." Triad Style, Greensboro, NC

"The songs are at once haunting and inspiring."
In the Spotlight magazine, Greensboro, NC

"pearlmerchant's musical phoenix serves the psyche and strives to enlighten the soul and spirit, not top the charts... There are musical flights into gospel and opera, medieval marches and Ramsey's vocals all tied to grand pianoscapes, long stretches of classical violin and percussion.
This experience is like some beautiful foreign film. It requires a working brain and a beating heart.
Thus, if you're looking for a typical Top 40 collection, don't bother. pearlmerchant reaches far higher than that. If you're seeking shelter from the tripe on radio and are unafraid to expand your horizons beyond a typical verse-chorus-verse format, pearlmerchant is the flight you need to book."
ESP Magazine, Greensboro, NC

Reminiscent of Ramsey's Older Compositions
Michael Ramsey has come a long way from his college roots when he wrote for & jammed with the band "the face of change." His return to music with "pearlmerchant" only goes to show you can't keep a good musician down. Pearlmerchant's lyrics are moving, the harmonies are crisp, & the underlying soul of the music is Ramsey all the way. It's hard to find good local musicians here in Winston-Salem, NC, but this band is a keeper!

Evocative, layered and soulful...3song IS richness in music
3song is at once delightful and eerie, something that sticks in your mind not because of its catchiness but its many dense layers of harmonies and thought. The pulsing Only Fire builds slowly until impassioned and rocking, while Hey Moon marries two earnest themes in my favorite song on the disc. The Pearl, a new recording from the first album, illustrates how the band is progressing and improving their unique sounds into a powerfully cohesive package. Your first listen will not do your mind or ears justice...own this and spin it often.
