ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Brian Carley | Michael Jones | Stephan Jones | Rich Stewart

Penfold leaves no facet of life unexplored, no human emotion unexpressed, and nothing of importance unadressed. This is real music being played by real people with no ulterior motives for what they do. They weren't forced into being musicians, they chose to be, if not for any reason other than that they have some undying need to express themselves and creating music seemed to the most sincere way to share it.

They refuse to be labeled as any one type of music, for doing so would be detrimental to the universal applications of what they articulate, and to use a broad term such as "pop" doesn't seem to do the music justice. Besides, no one song is exactly like the next. The styles range from straightforward rock to more melodic ballads to spacey, emotively driven songs. The uniqueness in their song writing no doubt stems from the varied interests of the members. Some might say that four guys who grew up together, but like completely different styles of music is the exact recipe for a band destined to fail. Penfold sees it as a blessing, having each member contribute in his own particular way toward an end product that never ceases to remain captivating and satisfies writer and listener alike.

After playing together since high school, Penfold is able to weather the storm of musical differences and actually use it to their advantage. After the release of a record, a seven song cd, and a summer tour that took them all over most of the United States, Penfold has solidified into a close knit group of musicians and friends that exude confidence and demand to be heard, not just for the salutary qualities that can found by anyone auspicious enough to listen but for the sheer sincerity in what they have to say.

perfect gift!
I was so happy CD Baby had this cd! My fiancee found an old mixtape with "Traveling Theory" on it...after that he couldn't get the song out of his head and looked EVERYWHERE for this cd. I found it on this site, and he was ecstatic! I'd never heard penfold before, but I think they're awesome!

the dood is amongst us... be warned.
Kenneth Browser once said.. “Blind dolphins have been known to survive in the wild, guided by exquisite acoustic images of their prey”
i think that just about sums it up. this album is doodicle.

Lost Inside the Beauty of It...
The moment "Amateurs & Professionals" began I was lost inside the beauty of it. Penfold dragged me motionless and senseless for the 30+ minutes of it's existence in a way that no record has done for a tragically long time.

Tamara Turner, CD Baby

With gorgeous emo-bred harmonies that hang and rustle like curtains in the breeze of the rhythmic drive, this vivid indie pop is bound to trigger the same receptors in the brain as Sunny Day Real Estate, Hum and Shoegazer, while setting off a chemical reaction that feels something like a mix between euphoria and melancholy. Some might call the emotional angst masochistic but those who celebrate intensity and love nothing more than riding the highs and lows of being human will find a jewel box of vulnerable, intimate micrcosms.

If you need your EMO fix, buy this!
This CD is just one of the best offerings by any band EVER in the Emo genre. Their songs are mostly slow paced but they're played with such intensity and emotion that you don't even notice they are slow paced. In my opinion this cd shows what good music is. If you are a fan of bands like Mineral or SDRE, this will definitely blow you away. Buy it. You will not regret it.

Penfold's first, and in my mind, finest album. Certainly defines true independent emo and leaves a mark on the scene that will last forever. You you never find a cd like this, ever. R.I.P Penfold.
