New in Berlin

by Persephone's Bees

PBees 2nd collection may sound lighter, but the lyrics are darker, more introverted. The focus continues to be Angelina Moysov's unique voice describing her thoughts and visions of her past/present/future journeys and the arrangements/guitar of Tom Ayres.

Album Notes
"Independence Day" is straight out of the movie "Network": 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' "Ugly Thing" could have been a Hall and Oats song if they had married The Tubes. "I Like You" simply acknowledges the similarities between love and hate, pleasure and pain, possibly leading to murder while Komeda plays in the background. "Sex" has found it's opening keyboard line lost in Frank Zappa's bone yard. "Waiting" visits the lost world of the band YES in it's own patient way. "PMS" is just some instrumental insanity caught while it was going down, reminiscent of The Pretenders 1st. "Chanting" travels much further than any of the other songs, and it feels like another planet entirely. "East West" reminds one of the David Bowie 'Tonight' period. "Liars" has such a Talking Heads groove, allowing Angelina to vent about someone...? The title track, "New In Berlin", has Pink Floyd and Bono too high to go home. Finally, "We've Just Begun" ends it all with optimism.
