Call Of Love

by Peter Kater

Multi-Grammy Award nominee, Peter Kater invites three of the most gifted musicians of our time to create a beautifully melodic, richly colorful and textural recording that transcends many genre's at once. This is a pure hybrid of instrumental music originating from the core of Peter's most prolific and inspired Muse, the Natural World. This musical enchantment was born far away from the demands of the material world and mind. It invites an unspeakable shift. An unthinkable gift. Here, in the "real" world, the natural world, within each moment and from every direction, resounds the Call Of Love.

A special thanks to John Unangst, Sue Sherman, Jeff Lancaster, Lester Hailey and Bill Lihew for your encouragement and support of my creative process. And a special thanks to Spar Street not only for the generous use of his beautiful art for this CD cover, but also for creating such brilliant and inspiring work for the world to enjoy.  www.sparstreet.com . And an extra special acknowledgement to my beautiful wife, Gabrielle, for her loving and keen advice and support during this project and always.

I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge my friend, Pierce Brosnan, for being a catalyst of inspiration in the composing of this CD. Four of the ten songs on this recording were inspired through a kind of creative spark initiated by Pierce. Some time last year he shared a script with me for an independent film he was producing and starring in. In the script one of the characters played the piano and Pierce wanted to explore musical themes that might be relevant to the character and film in general. Through that, and later contributing the music to Pierce's recent "Save The Whales" campaign, a large portion of this album was born. Thank-you Pierce!

Words cannot express the joy and elation I feel when I allow myself to experience and BE with the almost unreasonable beauty that IS our natural world, our Home.    I thank the Universe/God that I CAN experience it's awe and wonderment as often as I do.    I know this perfection IS Reality.   And for some unexplainable miracle, I can see it.   I can hear it's silent roar. It calls to me. Touches me . . . reaches out and talks to me. It reminds me that I am not alone as I am absorbed into it's profound presence.   The unspeakable shift. The unthinkable gift. Elation.   Here, in the "real" world, the natural world, within each moment and from every direction, resounds the Call Of Love.

Kathy Parsons

From MainlyPiano
Peter Kater is one of the most active and prolific composers out there, but the high quality of his recordings never wavers. On "Call of Love," Kater is joined by Paul McCandless (oboe, soprano sax and penny whistles), Dominic Miller (acoustic guitar), and Jacques Morelenbaum (cello) playing nine Kater originals and a stunning instrumental arrangement of Sting's "Fields of Gold." Most of the music is flowing and exceptionally beautiful, but there are some jazzier moments as well, giving the album a bit more of an eclectic feel. Kater relocated to Maui from Southern California fairly recently, and has many more opportunities to spend time in nature - his new reality. Quoting from the liner notes, Kater explains, "Here, in the `real' world, the natural world, within each moment and from every direction, resounds the Call of Love." Can you imagine how much different the world would be if everyone had that kind of inspiration? Kater's music will give you an idea of what that world would sound like.

"Call of Love" begins with the title track, a graceful and passionate piece that features Kater on piano, McCandless on oboe, and Morelenbaum on cello. Gorgeous! I love "Breath of Life," which includes all four musicians, none of which is the "star." A true collaboration, each has a chance to shine as well as to weave a dreamy tapestry of sound together. "Song of My Heart" combines feelings of elation and peaceful reflection into another gorgeous ensemble piece for the quartet. "Here For You" is upbeat and lively, and because of the freedom and spontaneity of the sound, I assume that quite a bit of it is improvised. "In Every Life" is the only piano solo, and it's a beauty! "A Tale To Tell" is another favorite. Very slow, poignant and bittersweet, it really touches the heart. "My Beloved" is a tender love song made even more evocative by the silky tones of the cello. Sting's classic "Fields of Gold" is one of the best songs of the past twenty years, but Kater and Dominic Miller make it their own with an outstanding arrangement for piano and guitar. "Each Moment" closes out the set with tenderness and grace, saving my favorite track for last.

I have most of Peter Kater's recordings and never get tired of his music, so even though you may have several of his albums in your collection, I think you'll like this one a lot, too. Recommended!
