To make the potion in this package; gather a crowd of any size, in a bar, a theatre, or even a street corner, mix in a new moon, a strumming guitar, a piano melody and fiddles, both bass and violin, the beat of a drum. Simmer in a summer wind, then shake and stir for three nights, and finally, share with friends.
For three dates in July and August 2011, we recorded the band of musicians that I’ve had the privilege of sharing the stage with for the past five years. With the sonic palette and stylistic abilities of Scott, Chris, Marc and Maggie, each night has been a new adventure. From time to time we’d be playing on a porch, in a living room or before a show and several of us would remark, 'this feels really good, we should record this.' We had been releasing our own sound board CDs after shows for several years, but never had put together a complete set of songs that could be recorded well, mixed and released as a full album. With the help of a great team of sound engineers, friends, and the bright shining star of providence, it is finally here.
Each show - Chicago, St. Louis and Annapolis, was entirely different and unique. Our toughest job was to have to pick songs from among them. For that I have to thank Alan Schulman and Chris Stone, who pulled the best of what we got to the top and made it shine.
Thanks to all who were there and shared those nights with us and to you who are carrying the music and magic of those evenings down the road.
"Cause I'm under your spell
How was I to know where I should go?
And it's too late to tell,
Darling I'm under your spell"
