Album Notes
HERE WE GO! is a must have for any funk fan, and a damn good listen for anyone else.

It is not a disk that will sit on your shelf. It is a disk that will get carried with you, used, worn out, loaned, lost, and happily bought again any number of times. This album is a wall-to-wall musical experience featuring a broad spectrum of grooves.

Old-school funkateers will have their hope renewed by "Big Bang Theory" with its expansive horn hook and tight latin flavored rhythms that recall the funk classics of Tower of Power. At the same time, a strong hip-hop influence colors "Here We Go", propelled by a rumbling synth-doubled bass, a rap and horns!!!

An eerie, floating electric piano permeates the soon-to-be radio anthem "Love Supreme", and the world of smooth, funky pop will groove for years to the witty "Fat Pants", the sexy "Into Your Groove", and the plaintive yet propulsive "Do You Believe?".

The marriage of old school funk to modern rock is carried furthest in "Whatcha Gonna Do?" and "Why?", which simply must be heard! On top of all of this, there are two searing instrumentals - one recorded live - that remove any doubt that these horns are the real thing. Each of the 4 horn players has a blazing solo somewhere on this album. Also impressive is that the same vocalist is never heard twice in a row.

There is a constant modulation of feel, texture and energy that never lets the listener down from a constant rollercoaster high.

Greasy and hot: Phat Phunktion Cooks!
Phat Phunktion dishes up some of the finest soul food this side of early Tower of Power. Great charts, a tight horn section and raw vocals separate Phat Phunktion from the soul-less pack. They may be from somewhere in the mid-West, but they play like they've grown up in Oakland. Phat Phunktion is a band to watch!

Yes this is the band I want to play out my mortal soul as it ascends to wherever and tries to laugh off that whole atheist thing. Phat Phunktion are just a good old fashioned funk express train, grooving and moving their way down the track. A band that once again proves a real rhythm section can out funk any drum machine and sampler combination you care to mention. Add a Grade A horn section, a collection of fine tunes and a decent vocalist and you have something a little bit special by any standards...

I love this album! Phat Phunktion is a wall of sound that will have you dancing before you know what hit you. The band shows continued refinement in this, their second release. Excellent instrumental work, and a new emphasis on vocals and lyrics makes this Badgerland Octet sizzle.

Ya gotta get this one! I didn't think they could out-do themselves, but they did. Throw this in your CD player and get Phunky. Seeing them live is the best doubt. Go Big Al and Shel! -TH

these guys (and courtney) are the best band this freakin state has ever heard, or been lucky enough to see. If PHAT PHUNKTION cant make it, then we should all pretend what nsync does is music, and give up. The horns remain in you forever...that didnt sound right, but...they are the they aren't the NEXT anything... better yet, they're the FIRST PHAT PHUNKTION.

A fan of the Phat funky sound since I first heard them rock Lake Mendota on the U-W, I eagerly awaited their newest disc. The first one was getting worn out in my car's CD player. Here we Go has the those funky horns and a groove that makes you move and listen at the same time. This Madison-grown group won't been around too much longer. This CD shows the band members have come of age...and Here We (They)Go!!!

I CANNOT even begin to explain how SLAMMIN' this CD is. If you want to be blown away, this is a MUST-HAVE!!!! "Here we go" has it all...great songs, great singing, great playing. THOSE HORNS...DAMN!!!! This band is going to take it all the way. I have become a believer!

I just heard the new Phat Phunktion CD "Here We Go", and all I can say is WOW!!! This band plays and writes like they have been in the business for 30 years. I can't wait to hear their next album!

Phat Phunktion has officially kicked my ass! I haven't heard anything like this! I hope someday I can catch them live! Good work!!!!

Boom Boom

Being from Chicago, I didn't think it could get funkier than Swimmer or Liquid Soul. I have been converted to the sounds and soul of Madison's Phat Phunktion. Their new CD is incredible!!! Keep it up!
