Phil Younger / Phil Theobald
A few years back, when country crooners Brooks and Dunn's "Boot Scootin Boogie" was the craze, Phil Theobald and Jesse Christensen combined their diverse musical talents to become "The Youngers Brothers"! This popular Dixie duo quickly made a name for themselves in country music by winning the local and state competitions of the KONY Country Showdown three times and finally, with encouragement from radio personality Carl Lamar, advancing to the televised National Showdown Championship. Their debut cd, featuring songs written mainly by Phil, was an instant hit and sold out in just four days.
The duo soon found themselves sharing the concert stage with the likes of Diamond Rio, Confederate Railroad, Tracy Byrd and the Oak Ridge Boys while crisscrossing the USA from Jackson Hole to Phoenix and California to Florida.
When Nashville came calling with a chance for stardom, Phil made the difficult decision to let it pass in order to focus on family, song writing, and continuing his education and career as a speech/language pathologist.
Jesse went on to pursue a solo career, nearly signing a record deal after two years in Music City and eventually moving to Colorado.
Phil recalls his short time in Nashville with a big grin on his face, "It was a blast hanging out with Dan Truman and the boys from Diamond Rio, writing songs with Jason Deere (producer for SheDaisy, Ryan Shupe, and the Nashville Tribute Band), and meeting country music personalities around town!" His biggest thrill came from watching his songs recorded as demos by Nashville studio musicians and the then-budding recording artists like Buddy Jewell and Gretchen Wilson.
With every mile Phil puts on his old Chevy truck, he becomes more excited for the release his new solo cd titled "Phil Younger-Somebody Will". "I needed to do this project now for a bunch of reasons; I've got a big birthday this year, that Mayan Calendar is running out, and my dad died suddenly of cancer this year. I miss him. He was always doing kind things for other people, like the old man mentioned in the title track of the cd. Mr. Johnson plants a little pecan tree, knowing that even if he's not around long enough enjoy the pecan pie, 'Somebody Will'. I wanna be like him and do some good while I'm still young!"
The cd is the culmination of years of collaboration with song writers, studios and friends. Songs are written and performed by Phil, with occasional contributions from talented writers like Jason Deere, Tony Martin, Tony Haseldon, Heidi Green-Wood, Kaylee Kirkland, David Weatherford, Sandy Certonio and guest appearances by Corri Theobald, the kids, Eric Dodge, "Younger Brother" Jesse, and Irmita (great Mexican food on the Blvd).
"My music has a lot to do with what's important to me; faith, family, friends, and freedom... so grab a new cd, play it nice and loud and find out for yourself what makes me Phil Younger!"
