Azul

by Phishbacher Trio

With Phishbacher's latest live album we see a shift toward an all acoustic approach. Nobody is safe: songs by the Beatles and Coldplay get a serious work-over of the super-odd meter variety, and an echo from Harry Potter makes its way into the music.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Controlled Piano Trio Madness

Walter Fischbacher cannot be stopped! On the heels of his two most recent, critically acclaimed albums "Journey to Turtleland" (2012, Jazzsick) and "Mellow Moon" (2012 Lofish Music), comes " Azul ", Phishbacher's latest live album, recorded while on tour in the Fall of 2012. Now he's branching out even further: With his upcoming program we see a shift toward an all acoustic approach in his music. Nobody is safe: songs by The Beatles and Coldplay get a serious work-over of the super-odd meter variety, and a musical echo from the Harry Potter franchise makes its twisted way into one of Fischbacher's original compositions.

Fischbacher, who has worked with jazz luminaries such as Randy Brecker, George Garzone, Ingrid Jensen, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Chico Freeman, Tim Lefebvre, Joel Rosenblatt and the Vienna Art Orchestra, is originally from Austria. He studied classical piano in Vienna from 1985 -'90, and jazz piano and composition 1990 -'94 at the Conservatory of Vienna. Fischbacher relocated to New York in 1994, where he, in addition to his work as a musician, manages his own recording studio and leads his band, "Phishbacher". Walter Fischbacher draws from a vast musical background encompassing not only classical piano repertoire but also the music of jazz piano greats such as Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
