This spoken word CD is a wonderful celebration of different cultures highlighting stories and fables about Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Navidad. Original stories celebrate with a family of butterflies for Kwanzaa; an armadillo and a couple of birds for Navidad and a living Menorah for Hanukkah. Adaptations are highlighted by the Ten-Minute version of A Christmas Carol entitled Old Mr. Scrooge! (Old Mr. Scrooge has been published and can be purchased separately as a script to be performed - sold online and as a download thru Lulu). And of course there are favorites like The Elves and the Shoemaker and wonderful carols sung by the ensemble!
Parents, teachers and children alike have enjoyed these stories since PIE Story Theatre (Projects In Education) was created in the early 90's for performances in New York City's Central Park. Since that time, these stories have enchanted children in New York, Chicago and then with All Seasons Theatre Company in New Jersey and Connecticut.
A rave from Mary Shen Barnidge of The Chicago Reader "...tight, intelligent, well-rehearsed performances of original and adapted material that's devoid of the silliness and preachiness that plague so much kiddie drama."
These stories were chosen for presentations at North Pier Festival Market, The Chicago Public Park and Public Library Systems, New Jersey Libraries and public and private schools and New York City and Connecticut Public and Private Schools. In addition, these stories have been brought to Children's Hospitals and Women's Shelters.
These stories are wonderful for the whole family and appeal to a wide audience because of the themes and style of the stories and carols.
Famed Sesame Street personality and Children's advocate Bob McGrath praised our stories and our story theatre troupe and honored us by becoming an Advisory Board Member.
Our professional performers gave voice to all the wonderful characters and narration. They are: Patrick Riviere, Michael Menger, Kellie Johnson, Babs Smith and Melissa Center. The Armadillo's Feliz Navidad was written by John Bellia. A Kwanzaa Story was written by Patrick Riviere and the PIE Company. All other stories were written and adapted by Patrick Riviere. Carols are in the public domain.
