ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"One of the best things I've heard this year."
- Edd Hurt - Village Voice

" Brooklyn's Pio Mazzotti play explosive, protean ramalama rock n roll with a flyaway air of imminent danger. The hyperkinetic "Bow Now" is overloaded with trebly hysteria - it's loose structure stretched by the group's numerous twists and sudden acceleration. Then, like the MC5 on a sugar rush, they're straight off into "Dead Men Tell Tales", audaciously burning off energy with a cheerfully careless approach to pace and endurance. They've mastered the trick of appearing loose and tattered while still driving their point home with lethal accuracy. This is a heady cocktail of raw riffs and syncopated rhythms with a sticky, bubblegum coating, like and impish, bratty counterpart to Comet on Fire"
- The Wire

"Their visceral, strangled guitar and riotgrrrl-sih vocals combine on this six-track mini-album into a prime slice of alt. rock with a rightful place on bills with band from the Sub Pop stable or other tope-level indie labels."
Sound Nation, Wales

"Be wary, Pio Mazzotti has just wrung my brain out like a sponge - "Teenie Fantastic" is a spactic manifesto of complexity and total friggin' bewilderment. Lucid jass drumming, clean guitar picking, melodic vocals, heavy hearted guitars, rubber-band bass tones, wailing guitar lead (sometimes 2 or 3 at a time), and most importantly, the sound of TEAMWORK! Pio Mazzotti, as a unit in this world, and beyond, has released an album that is intriguing and challenging. A most welcome conundrum!"
- Dr. Jones - Roadburn

"Teenie Fantastic is six tracks of smart, drone-tipped indie rock with male and female vocals. For a self-produced record, it really holds its own. The percussion is fierce and admirably articulate. The guitar work is equally clever, alternating between hard-driving riffs, complex psychedelica, and vaguely Sonic Youthish sludge. Now, please disregard everything that I've just said. It's all true, but forget your fears of pretentious indie wankery. Teenie Fantastic is first and foremost a fun rock album. It packs a hell of a punch and hits dead-center. For six bucks, this release is a steal. I've been listening to it on repeat for the last two hours, and I'm probably going to continue after I finish this review.

However, if they heard that I was enjoying it this much, they'd probably suggest I get help. If you browse the band's web site, you'll find that these guys are complete wingnuts. For all the work that they put into this record, they certainly aren't in danger of taking themselves too seriously. Incidentally, the band's name is borrowed from a World War I veteran buried in California. The website lists him as the lyricist and "spiritual advisor." R.I.P., Pio. "
- Left Off the Dial

"They are completely off their rocker!"

***EDITOR'S PICK***
"Psychedelic indie rock band Pio Mazzotti has a female singer that sounds so much like a mix between L7 and Hole's Courtney Love circa when she was good it's scary. Their album is a shock-and-awe combo of distorted guitars and hammering percussion. But when it's not busy pummeling you with a wall of noise it lets things slide down into a more relaxed hard rock vibe creating an atmosphere of slick bar band bliss. It's definitely a lot of fun and showcases why the drug culture might still be quite alive and vibrant."
- Smother.net

"Pio Mazzotti are concisely melodic Brooklyn shriek-and-soar sludgers with true melodies and false Italian surnames." - Chuck Eddy, Music Editor, Village Voice

"Teenie Fantastic is a pure smelly punkrock record, boy/girl vocals, full of electrified lead guitars screaming out over raunchy riffs and gritty melodies. You cannot ignore the genuine blowing out of passion of these tracks."
- Kamakino Zine, Italy

i saw this band before and they're awesome
i also listened to the CD because i just got it and i think it is really true to their live sound, only you can hear everything in a way that doesn't burn your ears unless you want it to. pio makes fun of themselves a lot, but the actual content of the music and the songwriting stands up to self-mockery in a way few bands can. and they kick ass! they'll kick your favorite pansy-band's butt up the alley.

Wow
This stuff is on fire! Guitar solos galore and drums from hell! Love the vocals - kinda of like the Pixies on PCP. Not for the weak hearted.
