Album Notes
Burn - Pit Burkhardt, November 2012.

The day was hot and the night’s still warm
In the mountain brews an electric storm
And the lightning strikes in the valley deep
The folks in the hills are still asleep
When the sun comes up on a tinder dry day
The wind picks up and the sparks they spray
The twigs ignite and the flames they squirm
It’s gonna burn, it’s gonna burn, it’s gotta burn

And through the woods in a fiery race
The gusts whip up roaring blaze
As the crowns explode and the flames fly high
Smoke and sud blacken the sky
And the folks in the hills they notice too late
The fireman cries evacuate
They grab what they can they may not return
It’s gonna burn, it’s gonna burn, it’s gotta burn

A wall of fire races east
And the hills become the blaze’s feast
What used to be a families home
Is soon reduced to chimney stones
And the firemen put up a stubborn fight
But they can’t resist the fire’s might
So runs its course and it takes its term
It’s gonna burn, it’s gonna burn

The blaze has died and the sky is clear
They sift through rubble for memories dear
And up in the valley by the stream
From the ashes sprouts fresh green
And to the trunks still dressed in black
The birds and bees are coming back
The elk and the bear will soon return
It’s gonna burn, it’s gotta burn
