Gretchen Priest and Plaidgrass

by Gretchen Priest and Plaidgrass

PLAIDGRASS is an top shelf acoustic band that plays a unique mixture of traditional Irish instrumentals with a bluegrass improvisational twist. Bracketed between rollicking contra and stepdance medleys are lush waltzes and barn burners. Terrific CD.

Album Notes
Gretchen Priest and Plaidgrass is a rich CD that shows off the talents of some of the finest Celtic, Bluegrass and Traditional musicians this side of the Atlantic. 2005 Grammy nominee Tim May's hot acoustic flatpicking (guitar, mandolin, mandocello, mandola, tenor guitar) rides high next to Tom Saffell's unique 8-string banjo riffs and tasty licks from Brian Christianson (fiddle, mandolin), Al Goll (resophonic guitar), Jeff Tayor (accordion), Chris Joslin (5 string banjo), Chris Fontaine (bodhran) and Doc Holladay (bass). The group joins fiddler Gretchen Priest in their debut album.

Fiddle master Stuart Duncan recently complimented the group, saying, "It is refreshing to hear a group of musicians draw from a myriad of influences. PLAIDGRASS has created powerful renditions of Celtic and Bluegrass instrumentals."

This is one of the most elegantly produced CDs I've heard in years. The musicianship is every bit as powerful as the great tune selection. A little Celtic, a little Bluegrass, a little Old Time -- somehow this band blends these into an entire new genre of music. They call it AmeriCeltic. I call it awesome.

Gotta get this
Great tunes, great performing, great album.
The tune selection is great--celtic applied to old time fiddle tunes, irish tunes with a bluegrass twist, done with perfection.
It's now in my top 5 fiddle albums along with Fiddlin' Johnny and Kenny Baker. Can't wait for the next album.
