ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Pleasurade write their tunes as classical piano pieces, then plug in, turn on, and smash the bejeezus out of them – the end result is Beating Around The Bushes, the world’s first certified rock’n’roll/polka/fairground/glam classic.

Recorded and mixed in two weeks at the Isle of Wight’s hidden gem that is Skinny Mammoth Studios, Beating Around The Bushes is a concept album for those with no concept of what they did last night, straddling that indefinable moment when clarity starts to blur and what started as a perfectly normal day turns irrevocably weird.

Beating Around The Bushes was recorded and co-produced with the band by Stu Fisher and Dave Waight of Hole, and mastered by Nigel Palmer at Lowland.

Track-by-track - A tour of Beating Around The Bushes led by Booner.

1 – Intro:

The album starts with an intro, a reprise of the track Broken. This is how I originally wrote that song.

2 – Short, Sharp and Painless:

Written from the perspective of someone who can’t get laid, trying to convince a drunk girl for a for a sympathy shag. The first half is what’s happening on the outside, the second half is what’s happening on the inside….

3 – Nettles:

“For half my life I’ve sung alone.”

4 – Devil Eyes:

Devil eyes is about a girl that’s so hot you can’t help but want her, but she’s a real tease and will drop you. For fun.

5 – Check You Out:

When a hopelessly drunken mate stands in the middle of the street and shouts “Check me out – you’re bloody lucky to have me” to his girlfriend, you’d be stupid not to write a song about it.

6 – Mama Grind:

I saw pictures of myself on Facebook dancing, grinding and gurning. This is all about “look at me dancing”, “I’m great”, “I look great”, and whether I turn you on or turn your stomach I’m gonna do my thing ‘cause I’m one sexy mother, basically.

7 – Feral Man:

Why are we surprised that sometimes we do crazy things? We’re nothing but animals. Monkeys in suits.

8 – Live to Regret:

A waltz, sung by Jason. This is about pulling your finger out your arse and doing something about following those dreams, whatever they may be. After washing your hands, of course.

9 – Shooting Arrows at the Sun:

About the music business, basically.

10 – Carly:

A billion rhino horns would wither if teenagers could see into the future.

11 – Loving You Wrong:

I read this crazy story in the paper about some guy in Australia having a kid with his own grandmother. I’d hesitate to say that inspired me, though.

12 – Gold Beggars Cup:

I wish I got a £20 million bonus for cocking things up.

13 – Propelled by Sound:

I can’t dance like some X-Factor tit, so I just jump around.

14 – Broken:

When everything’s gone to shit, to hell with it: Just sing.

15 – Outro:

A snippet of Nettles as it was originally written. Time to go. Bx.
