Album Notes
Unleash your primal nature! "Primal" their eagerly awaited second CD upholds the style set by "Into the Abyss" and leads the listener to new highs.

Pocket Universe's music has been enthusiastically received around the world. Compelling and seductive; it creates mood and inspires action without demanding control. Where "Into the Abyss" has a sexy, sensual feel to it, "Primal'' is more, well...primal. It's seductively visceral and compelling.

Even prior to its official release "Primal" was already well on its way to expanding on the success of "Into the Abyss"

The performance art/music duo Pocket Universe comprised of Edmonton artist's Lord Mykel and His Moonfyre have been creating together since 1999. Sharing a musical theatre art background, they ventured into the world of music together writing, recording and performing unique tunes. In 2002 they were challenged to create some "Scene Music". The acceptance of that challenge was the genesis of "Into the Abyss" and Pocket Universe's vision and talent coalesced. Together they have woven the magic that created the sensual aural experience found on their first CD "Into the Abyss" and that magic expands with their Second CD "Primal"

Seductive and enchanting music is their forte and they have chosen to present it in the form of music created for sensually charged encounters. Music meant to be a soundscape to be used by the listener to create the perfect environment for corporeal escapades.

Mykel, a composer and multi-instrumentalist writes the bed tracks of the songs. Moonfyre, a lyricist explores those tracks exposing the words and melodies within. Together they collaborate as producers in their own studio and bring to life their unique style of scene music. That style includes instrumentals, spoken word over music and vocal melodies; all featured in both their CD's. They produce their albums under the label of their independent production company Fyrewind Productions Inc.

Lord Mykel and His Moonfyre exude enchantment and mystery. They embody a sensual and irresistible attraction of the type that hasn't been experienced before. They encourage you to step beyond the abyss into their "Pocket Universe"

PRIMAL NEED A Review by Stephen Lock, Producer/Host Speak Sebastian Radio CJSW F
Pocket Universe, an electronic/scene duo based out of Edmonton, Alberta, has just released their second CD Primal through their production company, Fyrewind Productions.

Pocket Universe is Mykel and his consort Moonfyre. Mykel and Moonfyre composed, and performed, all tracks on computer, with vocal stylings by Moonfyre.

Like their first CD, Into The Abyss, this CD can variously be described as trance, meditation, or scene music. Unlike the previous CD, Primal has a more melodious, almost arabesque feel to it with the notes twisting and flowing around a central drum then fading away on an aural breeze.

Each track is designed to take the listener deeper into the various stages of erotic attraction, beginning with that pre-desire state one can’t quite identify, which some sexologists call ‘vague unrest’ and characterized by restlessness and an inability to focus and concentrate on mundane tasks (Notherwhere).

As the strains of Notherwhere ease into the second track, Obsession, the listener is confronted with stark guitar-like chords and Hammond organ, yet the original arabesque atmosphere persists.

Just like the progression of desire, track three (Primal) is a panther slinking through the night; hunting, searching, feeling its blood course through its veins, all its senses alert and ready, it’s heart beating louder and louder before being taken over by the call of Lust.

Lust starts off with the guttural groans of Moonfyre, as she is swept up in the ministrations of her Master’s whip, which forms the base of the track. Trumpets and strings swirl up and around this foundation in a confusion of emotion and sensation, becoming more triumphant as body and spirit separate, rejoin, and evaporate.

The arabesques of Notherwhere reappear in a heavier form in Urge. The base line here is an almost demonic breathing, bestial yet aroused, and focused on the beauty under his sway. These are soon joined by the heavy and increasingly aroused cries and groans of his lover as he brings her higher, driving her to heightened levels of passion. A desert flute weaves in and around the lovers as they drive each other towards increasing passion; straining, yearning, desperate to reach the next plateau, to seek relief from the sweet agony of passion, and yet reluctant to relinquish it.

Blade, the sixth track, suggests a leveling off, when lovers touch gently, whisper to each other, gaze into each other’s eyes, share their souls.

As the listener moves into Fervor, the pace again picks up. A constant rhythm, increasing in intensity, pounds through this track, highlighted by sparkling strings that shoot off it like mini-comets. Waves of aural sensations sweep over the listener, like the endorphins that course through ones body during sex.

Track eight, Whim, begins with an almost jazz-like set of drums and snare, which are soon joined by the snap of a small whip across flesh. A piano stumbles through, seeking a melody, as a woodwind starts to slowly whisper in the background. Through it all, the incessant whirl and snap of the whip creates an almost hypnotic counterpoint.

Seduction harks back to the earlier tracks with its drum machine driving the track and Moonfyre’s breathy whispers of “Seduction, oh dream seduction” wend their way in and around and through the drums and strings. Moonfyre’s lyrics echo through the piece like a half-remembered dream, bits and pieces rising up only to slip back into the mist.

The final track, Dream, is rich and full, swelling up from some unknown well of longing. Languorously, it weaves itself around the central theme, spiraling upward like dense incense towards the light of some obscure temple, spreading out across the dim recesses, becoming fuller with each subsequent puff.

This is not a work one listens to, it is a work one must feel, experience, and absorb. It is a work of spirit and passion and, perhaps, a way for each of us to again tap into that passion and release it in ways yet unknown.

pleasantly surprised
Pocket Universe – Primal
Track Listing: Notherwhere, Obsession, Primal, Lust, Urge, Blade, Fervour, Whim, Seduction, Dream.
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I didn’t know what to expect, but I’m not disappointed. The theatrical, cinematic quality of Pocket Universe’s music will remind you of Midnight Syndicate, but it has a funkier, more sensual ambience of a Cirque De Soleil performance. No surprise here really, as this talented duo both have theatre backgrounds. You’ll find everything here from mystery, sexual intrigue, and the exotic. This album is good for everything from chilling out, to getting intimate, to playing in the background while working on a creative project! Ah, if multitasking were only this sexy! Never mind though, lie back and relax, let it seduce you! (reviewed by KM)

Pocket Universe – Primal (Fyrewind Productions 2004)

Singers, songwriters, poets, musicians… These words don’t begin to describe the two souls that are Pocket Universe. Mykel and Moonfyre have been artists for a lifetime but it wasn’t until a chance meeting that these two kindred spirits came together to create a singular idea, a sound that is brilliant , intriguing, sexy and yes… very Primal. Specifically designed for intimate and sensual encounters aptly named “Scene Music”. Each track is compelling and seductive the kind of music that lives, breathes, gasps, moans and grins with you. This is not just a sonic experience it’s a spiritual one as well, creating magical soundscapes of electric guitar, jungle rhythms, airy synths, soulful piano and catcy samples. Each track is aptly named, as the music not only fits the word but captures the very essence of the meaning of the word, allowing you to become enthralled and overwhelmed by it – to live it if you will.

Tracks such as… “Obsession”, “Primal”, “Lust”, “Urge”, “Fervor” and “Seduction” embody every ounce of what you would expect a musical interpretation of these words to be, they wrap you up in warmth and passion abound. Tracks such as… “Nothewhere”, “Blade” and “Dream” take you on a audible journey of the imagination, asking you but not forcing you to reflect and enjoy what it is to be a sensual creature, but within all this is a playfulness, a bit of fun for those who want something a bit more animalistic; the track “Whim” is just good danceable fun (if dancing is what you have in mind) and just proves even more how talented this couple is. This CD is absolutely for those who are young at heart and open minded with their lives as well as there music. This is a treat and I’m so very grateful to have found Pocket Universe… thank you so both very much for letting me into your world. Support the artist and buy “Primal” now on-line. [Mystchief]

Out of this World!
This music is exactly as described - Primal. In dungeon play it allows me to slide into 'sub' space easily with no distractions just primal white music. I even use it in my day job as a childcare worker to lull and soothe infants and children to sleep. Amazing...if they only knew....Keep up the great work Pocket Universe.

great music to "play" to.. really gets the mind going before the body
I have found little music out there that can really set a mood. This cd sets the mood, takes you from warm up all the way thru heavy play. Glad to add it to our collection!
