Hard work is a key to overcome all tragedies and POJ (Product of Jewel), proves this to be true with his latest project The Red Eye Express. Under his previous name, Proph, he won the Independent Music Award Song of the Year for his song “Back of the Bus” from his debut album. However, the momentum from that major accomplishment came to an immediate halt when, around this time, he was hit with the devastating emotional setback of losing his mother, Jewel, to cancer.
In this sophomore effort, fueled with the inspiration of his late mother, takes a “no boundary” approach in this solid deliver. Red Eye Express has the beats for everyone from cruising, lounging or motivating yourself. “Out here Alone” is reminiscent of G funk era beats with hints of nineties soul. “Are You Ready” the productive person’s anthem, showing his drive for staying busy and making his paper. “CA” is a vocal tour highlighting his home state’s best. He then has laid back songs like “Heavy Smokers” which is made for lounging. “Intimate” is a steamy erotic song with lyrics that stimulates the mind and body. Every rhythm and bar was experienced by this artist living up to his “No hype, No embellishment” motto.
This project adds to this Sacramento-born artist’s impressive list of accomplishments that includes earning his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa and becoming the school’s #3 all-time leader in the sixty meter. POJ proves that there is room in the rap game for an educated brother with the heart of a blue-collar worker
