What Are 'Pop Interludes' Anyway?
Pop Interludes = An anagram of "Peter plus Dino" that could easily have been "Reunited Plops", "Rodent Pileups", "Opulent Spider" or "Reptile Pounds".
Pop Interludes 2008 - 2010
In July of 2008, Peter Morley was desperately seeking a musician to help bring his lyrics to life and Dino De Angelis was desperately seeking a lyricist for his growing collection of instrumental compositions. They met through Craigslist NYC and thus the collaboration of Pop Interludes was born. What followed was an expeditious succession of strong associations that were formed between many of Peter's previously written lyrics and Dino's previously recorded compositions – serendipity? Perhaps! The results are a blend of powerpop, electro-acoustic rock, 60's and 70's sunshine pop, all spiced up with a few bits of 80's new wave/synth pop.
An exponential feedback loop was set in motion wherein Dino's music would spark new lyric ideas in Peter, and Peter's words would spark new musical ideas in Dino. In the first 18 months of their collaboration alone, some 30+ songs were written. As a matter of fact, most of what now appears on Manhattan Charade was generated during that time.
Pop Interludes 2010 - 2011
Various circumstances (i.e. life) resulted in a temporary pause in Pop Interludes' output. The pair regrouped in late 2011 and selected songs from their body of work for inclusion in their first release. And from that Manhattan Charade was born.
Pop Interludes 2012 - Present
Early in 2012, work began on mixing Manhattan Charade, as the pair simultaneously continued to write original material. Out of the batch of new songs, "Invisible", clearly belonged and was quickly added to the album. On February 14, 2013, Manhattan Charade was released! While the songs vary in style, the theme of "charade" is carefully weaved throughout the album.
