NEAR PERFECT
I have scoured CD Baby for many months looking for fresh and innovative music of this genre, and I believe this is the Cream Of The Crop!
I have found and purchased many albums from CD Baby, but Blood Red Tape is by far and away the most profound yet simplistic of the lot.
I'm a HUGE fan of bands such as Tool, Deftones and Porcupine Tree, yet this album has had much more use than all others in the past year.
If i have to be brutally honest though, the first song Jebel Moon doesn't get much play time, as i find it has a bit too much Cheese Factor, but the rest of the albulm gets full play from start to finish every time!
FANTASTIC DISPLAY OF MUSICIANSHIP!

Drew Weber

a mix of heavy guitars, intrikit drumming, fat synths, and suthing vocals=Blood
First time I heard these guys I was reviewing tracks for garageband.com. When my ears heard the first track in the reviewing list, I new I had to have the album. Unforchanitly, it wasn\'t out yet, but forchanitly for me now, it is,in my hands, and in my player.
To sum it all up, in a nutshell, \"WOW\"! This album has amazing elements!
As far as the percussion: Main rithems across tracks are pretty much the same, but some where in the middle of the song, You really never know what to expect. Their is a change up.
Guitars: Most of the tracks are in B, which is unforchanit, could have done a lot more their.
Synths: ad a lot to the sound.
Vocals: nice and suthing, (reminds me of the soft spots in Gravity Kills stuff).
Recording/production: Very nice seeing that these guys did this in a home studio. Of course their is stuff I might change, seeing that I\'m a audio nut myself.
Let\'s go through the tracks a bit, and so I can be in depth about this purdy nice little review..

01 - Jebel Moon
This is perhaps my favorite track on the album, a great opening track. It is in the key of B Nice synths, and a low mean guitar mhelps to create the hard rock sound for this track. Snare drum is panned a little left of center, which is wierd. Vocals have a cool soft bouncing delay on them. Love the chorus!
02 - Splitzkrein
Track is in C Sharp, and some what softer then the first track in reguards to the style of music. Track reminds me of Tool/Chevelle because of guitar work and drumming.
03 - Your Kettle
Key of B, 10 Minutes 40 Seconds. Long track but awsome in procussion: Love that frkn little bell! love the synths at the start of the track when it is building up.
04 - The Kingdom
Track is in Key Of B. Lyricly: I just can\'t figure out this band. They are obviously searching for something spiritually. In this track it looks like they are contemplating the evelution they were probably taught in school.
05 - Six Degrees
So I\'m debating. Is it the first track, or this one that is my favorite track? Honestly, this is the reason I bought the album. This track is in key of B. Love the acoustic guitars in it that give it a softer mellow sound, that violin with that delay is amazing! It\'s not tipical!
06 - The Simple Things
Track is in key of B. Love those stereo synths and that snare drum is cool. Feel of track reminds me of Rush.\\
07 - Enemy
Track is in key of B. Nice acoustic guitars in this one as well.
08 - We Kuffar
Different key! Thanks! It\'s key of A.
Nice Jimbay work, Nice acoustic guitar work. Electric guitars are dropped to A which is cool. That delay on vocs is more noticeable.
09 - Back In The Day
The acoustic gtrs are awsome! in this track. main rithem is finally changing up a little. I love how this track goes from soft to more hard sounding. Nice vocal harmoneys.
10 - The Light
Track starts out with cool procussion, awsome synths and d to f sharp chording! Vocals remind me of the band Demon Hunter. This track is some what of a mystery, so I\'ll leave it for you to decide.

In closing: This is a cool some what well thought out album creation that I would suggest you to pick up.

Can't Stop Playing This!
I don't think I can say anything about the band or this album that hasn't already been said. I've been following these local boys for about 5 years now and I haven't been disappointed yet. I'm so glad they've finally received the exposure that they so well deserve. I hope they continue to work this hard on everything they do and I wish them luck and continued success. What are you waiting for? ORDER THIS ALBUM!!

Can't get any better than this!
I received this autographed album from Portal album on October 16th.. It's November 6th.. I have not been listening to anything else since. This is just to inform everyone involved with Portal of fantastic work, it seriously can't get any better than that. You guys nailed it. From start to finish it's pure excellence, it really leaves one wanting more. The talent combined when the music begins: great bass tempo, of course sick @$$ drums with the occassional head jamming beats, unique guitar riffs with a bad@$$ old school touch that i've been waiting for with this new age rock going on.. and as far as the vocals go.. words cannot say how well Kenton sings and explains views with such melody and compassion. This is one of the best bands ever... I said Tool was my favorite band of all time, but damn guys.. you keep this kind of stuff up and that will soon change.

keep it coming!!!

Look out Porcupine Tree!
Holy #$*&%^ this album is good. I have all their CDs and this is probably the best one. This is 1 hour 10 min of top quality Portal music. I know its a good album when my favorite track is the one I\'m listening to at the moment ^^

I say \"Porcupine Tree look out!\" because this album more than the others sounds like Porcupine Tree with one important difference: I like the Portal singer much better. That to me is sooo key. (though beating Porcupine Tree instrumentally is near impossible, that drummer OMG, and the HARMONIES!) To me the singer sounds like a more positive and articulate version of Trent Reznor who I also really like. And I really love it that they are progressing to do some of the more \"out there\" soundscapes that Porcupine Tree does....and the drummer is cetainly coming more and more out front with the same kind of interesting and solid grooves and fills.

This time around Portal seems to be following the success of their live track \"Insurgent Few\" on Garageband. I hear a lot of the same kind of guitar riffs with awesome odd meter drum solos. If you are into cool rhythms Portal has delivered once again. Song after song of interesting meter changes that are so well done they will slip by you if you aren\'t paying attention. One thing that amazes me is the way the singer takes these complex lyrics and sings them over all this odd meter music in a way that sounds so natural like it was all 4/4.

Only thing I miss from the older albums is there seems to be less synth, but with great song writing and playing like this I honestly forget about it as I\'m enthralled by each new track.

ok going back I think I\'m actually going to pick out two favorites: Your Kettle and The Kingdom. Man the second half of Kingdom is just stellar. You can actually hear the part I\'m talking about in the demo clips..It goes from this soft beautiful mesmorizing and building 6/4 harmonized melody that breaks into an angsty Tool like riff with the singer doing his Reznor like angry vocals over the top. ACK PERFECT!

Outstanding: Haunting, powerful, driving and melodic
\"Blood Red Tape\" is the new album by the Canadian independent band Portal. It is self described as rock/progressive rock and is a followup to their outstanding 2005 release \"Element\".

The quality of the song writing, playing and composition has deepened and the songs have an ability to touch your soul. The tracks are layered beautifully and every song offers something new on further listenings.

Portal are often compared to other comtemporaries, but with this album I think they have risen above those comparisons and deserve to achieve a stature all of their own.
I love this album already as much, and possibly more than, I loved the previous release (Element) and it is now already a treasured part of my music collection which I know will continue to haunt me for many years. It gives me goosebumps (goose flesh for you North Americans!).

If you are a fan of strong composition, electrifying lyrics and like bands such as A Perfect Circle, Tool, Vast, Nine Inch Nails etc then you should check this out. You will not be disappointed.

Portal are a band with something to say and you should listen and enjoy!

Damn, but I love this album. Buy it now!

Absolutely Great
Hi Kenton...as I ststed in my emails, your a lifesaver with this one. This is my favorite genre of music & lately what's been out there was sorely lacking. I simply love this album and have been playing it constantly for friends & music lovers. I really shouldn't make comparisons but the last album I enjoyed this much was A Perfect Circle's 13th Step. The songs really flow well from beginning to end. Your vocals & lyrics are exceptional, the percussion is phenomenal, & love the bass tempo. I could always can pick a favoite track from any album until now. Six Degrees entertains my heart; Jebel Moon & The Simple Things spark a fire in my rock soul... there is simply not a weak song in this group.

I know you really put a lotta hard work into this and I for one truly appreciate the results. I've been getting the word out to look & listen to this. Great work and hope there's more coming down the road.
