ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
*SPECIAL LIMITED PRODUCTION. LESS THAN 900 REMAINING.

It's not every day that you hear violin jamming with hard rock. But today you can! Meshed with their "angular rock" are sawing, edgy violin lines that both sing and sear, interwoven with desperately passionate vocals and propelling song writing. If the bands Postman Syndrome, Mars Volta, Dredg, Floater and A Perfect Circle speed up your heart-rate even a little, this is a must have. With a smart and artistic melding of heavy-handed grind and more open, spacious atmospheres, their textural integrity along with an unusual ability to really listen to one another in their playing produces a clear and yet full-bodied, directed sound that is hard to come by these days. Dark *is* beautiful.

PROTO = The Beginning... and FUTURE of ROCK
Proto means The Beginning in Latin. This progressive rock band combines classical arrangements with a grinding rhythm section. Their uplifting sound inspires the head and the heart - if this is the future of ROCK, we can all be thankful.

Warning! Don't listen to this for the first time while driving a vehicle!
Heard this group's single on our college radio and was curious for more. The music is amazing. Good thing I wasn't driving the first time I heard it, as I may have been so focused and mesmerized by the songs that I would have been a traffic hazard.
Although I hear influences, the music is hard to place in a category or box. So, I will just describe: guitars weave a haunting texture that almost hypnotizes, than without warning explodes with relentless vocals that catch you unaware....Sortave cathartic. There are times when the guitar(s) sound almost etherial, spacesoundy. This music is haunting, and addictive. Forget listening to a single! I have already worn out a cd. I have not heard a rock band using violin to such a creative degree since King Crimson.

Unique brand of atmospheric and harder modern rock.
Nice if short, thematic cd where atmospheric and progressive flavors intermingle with a modern, harder rock influence.
An excellent vocalist and strong violin work are the highlights.

This is ART.
Proto is what i've been waiting to hear for years. They combine all of my favorite aspects of artistic writing. They'er live show at hair of the dog was amazing; they transformed the venue, every song was flawless. Can't wait to get some new music.

Completely Flawless Album
There is no songs on this CD which I dislike, on every single CD that I own, there are either a couple of songs that I skip completely, or just don't like as much as the others. EVERY song on this album is mind-blowing. A Perfect Circle, but with a better vocal artist, and a beautiful violin accompaniment. I'm thinking opening credits of Angel, but far far better.

I'm glad to know that there are still some extremely talented artists out there, who aren't too commercial.

Guys, go buy the CD, and share with your friends! Everyone should know about Proto, they're one of my favourite bands.
