The Quire is a not for profit chorus for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons promoting a positive image of these communities through excellence in choral music. Membership is open to anyone who is gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and to anyone who is respectful and affirming of these communities. Our goals are to entertain, inspire, unite, uplift, and educate while fostering community spirit and pride, to make programs available to an increasing and diverse audience in Eastern Iowa, and to feature and provide opportunities for outstanding musicians of this area.
The Quire was formed in 1995. We are a non-auditioned chorus of 35 singers and offer two concerts a year, one in December and one in May or June. We are frequently invited to sing at area events including The University of Iowa's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation, the Iowa City HIV Aids Conference, Cedar Rapids Pride Festival, Iowa City Pride Festival, the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, World Aids Day, and numerous commitment ceremonies.
We are a completely volunteer organization from our incredibly talented and dedicated choir directors, accompanist and manager to our membership and Board. Our concerts are free and we are blessed with a dedicated following who helped make this CD possible.
We hope you enjoy our holiday CD!
