ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Here is an audio experience like you've never encountered before. Explore the more subtle, yet profound significance of The Ten Commandments. Imagine with us what it might have been like to have stood at the foot of Mt. Sinal and to have heard the sound of thunder, the ram's horn, and the fire followed by the awesome sound of the Divine Utterance as described in Exodus 19. Musically composed and arranged directly from the Hebraic text of Exodus 19, 20 and Deuteronomy 5 through assigning a musical value to each Hebrew letter. Coupled with a meditative recitation of The Ten Commandments, this is a most memorable aural journey.

From Rabbi Mark Kunis:

What you are about to experience in this 54 minute recording is a result of a question that was asked in one of my classes. We were discussing the 10 Commandments, which is undoubtedly the moral foundation of our society. More specifically, we were discussing how the 10 Commandments were spoken by Gd before the Jewish people on Mt. Sinai. The question was asked, "What do you think that sounded like?"

I replied, "Well, I don't know."

The student then asked, "Is it possible to reproduce a facsimile of the sound from the description of it in the Torah?"

"I suppose it is possible." I said

Then another student suggests, "Why not try and see what happens?"

This recording is the result of that challenge. And I hope you will be as amazed at the results as we were. What we discovered was, among other things, a meditative tool to help you cleave close to Gd and to increase your awareness of Gd and His commandments.

So this is what we did. We recorded each of the 172 words individually and then combined them. Before you hear the combined power of all the words said at once, you will hear them one by one, building one on top of the other to provide a very powerful meditative tool against the backdrop of music which was arranged using the "composition" of the Torah. Using "Music From The Torah", developed by Kevin Acres and Research Systems, we programmed music by assigning a musical value to the letters exactly as they appear in the Torah. It is a numeric and musical gematria, using the creation story Genesis chapter 1, one of the two basic Biblical Kabbalistic texts, Exodus 19, Exodus 20, and Deuteronomy 5. Our audio journey includes "The Utterance Explained", a riveting description and interpretation written and narrated by Rabi Mark Hillel Kunis.

Amazingly, we found a beautiful painting depicting, this exact scene by Yoram Ra'anan, who generously allowed us to use imagery extracted from the painting "Har Sinai" for our website and our packaging. Prints are available online at our website or through US Agent ARTcnet.

Liora Farkovitz and Dr. Allen Rosenthal, of Legacy Strategic Development, LLC generously developed this meditative journey as a fund raising tool for our congregation, Shaarei Shamayim, of Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of America.
