Radiation Year was originally started by Chris Sweet (drums) and Zack Sears (Guitars) playing and writing music together in the Summer of 2004 as “One of the Few” Eventually the guys picked up a couple new members and changed the name to “Radiation Year”. The lineup again changed a couple times and eventually Sief Al Malky was added on Bass and Dan Allen on rhythm guitar in the spring of 2005.The band played a few shows as the 4 piece with Sears doing all of the vocal work and playing guitar. Then in the summer of 2005 the group added Nick Chiasson (had just moved to Maine from New Orleans, LA) on Vocals.
With a 5-man lineup Radiation Year started playing shows in southern Maine for Muscle City Productions and landed opening spots in the first couple of months with the new lineup with such acts as As I Lay Dying and Aiden. Shortly after recording the first ep in Portland. Dan Allen left the group because of alternate interest. As a 4 piece again the band began to explore their musical abilities and took for a new direction.
Playing shows with such locals for over 2 years as: Sparks The Rescue, The Killing Moon (formally Animal Suit Driveby), Cambiata, Too Late The Hero, Last Chance To Reason and more. Radiation year has built a supportive/cult fan base over the past couple of years through their intense and chaotic live show. In the spring of 2007 the band participated in the Ernie Ball Battle of The Bands contest and by a majority vote in Maine and NH landed the opening spot on the main stage at Rockstars Taste Of Chaos at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, ME. The band plans to release their first full-length album in music stores in Maine and Nh as well as online through I tunes and Smartpunk on December 4th. As well as an intense touring schedule through the winter and spring to promote the record.
