ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Guillermo Velazquez, Mexican troubadour and huapango guitarist, has said that whoever takes on a tradition has to be true to themselves; one shouldn't disguise or assume a pose."There are people who think that to exercise a tradition you must wear huaraches, dress or talk in a certain way; only by being yourself you can exercise that destiny" meditates Velazquez .

Being far from the swamps, towns, people and music from the Sotavento, has presented Radio Jarocho with new challenges in our search to exercise the son jarocho tradition. Thus, we have taken every opportunity to learn: by traveling to the Sotavento, reading books, seeking out recordings, and studying with other son jarocho musicians visiting New York. All of this has helped to shape our own identity and sound within the son jarocho tradition.

Our EP reflects years of learning and friendship among everyone who participated in this effort. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it.
