ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Raul Huerta Biography

Born in Arequipa Peru, descendent of a family of musicians. He grew up surrounded by that magical air of singers, guitars, poetry and Bohemian. With 8 years his first contact with a scene and that didn’t stop until the day of today. Following the steps of his grandfather Antonio Tapia “Chocomel”, popular singer of typical music of the region, he learned with him the secrets of the guitar. At the age of 16 years his first Rock band called“Piramide”.

Time later discovers Silvio Rodriguez and the Nueva Cancion Latinoamericana, this fact would mark him definitively in his musical way. Armed with his guitar he would cross Universities, Institutes, Hospitals, Theatres, Seats, Stages, jails, etc. taking his message and his voice.

In 1989 records its first Album called “Solo un rumor” after being accidentally discovered by a producer in Lima - Peru. That Production would open to the doors of television programs and radio to him without stopping being the nomadic trovador of years back. Not being a commercial product would limitate his success to the cultural-intellectual circles of his country. At the same time their studies in the Catholic University of Arequipa would prevent him to remain in the Capital, something vital for a musician who wished to project himself at national level.

Years later would finish the carrier of Social Communication but he would never work on this Profession…..or maybe yes, communicating with his guitar and songs. With this album would manage to project himself at national level like the Trovador, making innumerable presentations, mainly in the south of the country, as well as in Bolivia and Chile, arriving to share scene with his admired Silvio, Pablo, Fito, among others. He became the leader of arequipeñan music of the time, always present in any activity where it had to emphasize the creativity of the region.

An aspect that, until then, always bothered Raul was to know himself well-known in the university circles, cultural and intellectual groups but without getting to have a real approach with the great majority of the population. After integrate the group “Canto Rodado” with the best musicians of the capital, in a project lamentably never finished, Raul listens to Juan Luis Guerra and he identifies himself totally with the message, musical as much textual, which would give a total change at his work, at the same time his experiences in the coast of Peru (Chincha)involve him totally with afro-Peruvian music, having Don Amador Ballumbrosio and all his family as a teachers. After a long staying in Lima, returns the artist to his native Arequipa soaked of all the cost experience and he begins to work in a new slope, danceble Latin music. Thus, little by little he get closer to that public who before was aloof to him, without resigning to his original ideas, putting always emphasis in Lyrics, but now was everything much more glad and simple.

In the year of 1992 he records a single called “Naboria”, mixe of cumbia and afro-Peruvian rythms, getting to be the Hit in the south of Peru, a song which is, until now, playing in partys or discos around the city. As a result of this radial success Raul began another stage of concerts and tours, this time on a massive way, sharing scenes with the great ones of Peruvian and Latin American music, like Gianmarco, Pedro Suarez-Vertiz, Micky Gonzales, Julio Andrade, Los Enanitos Verdes, Los Prisioneros among others.

A year later begins to record what would be his second Album “Son pa' Quererte”, a bunch of poetry songs full of love, in addition to a neat work of fusion of rhythms. Meanwhile the tours increase the popularity of Raul until arriving at his culminating point in the Feria International of Arequipa, in where they were congregated about 30.000 people, who sang to voice in neck the songs of Raul; one of his greater satisfaction that make him feel realize in his own country. The next step would be to take Lima by assault with his music, but things of the destiny prevented it. After to have finished recording his album “Son pa’ quererte” Raul decides to go away to live in Switzerland, deeply enamoured with a pretty Swiss girl started off for Europe with a CD under the arm…. and there another story begins. Nothing would be like before.

In 1995 Raul settles in Switzerland with all the illusion to conquer another country, another continent. The reality would be very hard, the change of cultures would make the adaptation very difficult. Music would be a hobby then other responsibilities urged and the success must wait. Finally he can publish the Album “Son pa quererte '” (1996) recorded in Peru, but the conditions in Europe are others and it does not obtain the awaited resonance. Raul must make the most unsuspected jobs, his years of success were just memories. But equal, taking all his forces and not getting down, he continues his assignment and looks for the contacts to be able to follow ahead with his music.

Just a short time later he would know several Swiss, Peruvian and Latin musicians with whom he would try to continue his project without getting to make something concrete, some concerts and later a time of silence. Soon Raul would meet the great Peruvian pianist Cesar Correa with who he records a Demo of new songs, already with European influence. The musical restlessness would take him to form the group “Inka Split” with other Swiss and Peruvian musicians with whom it could recognize the terrain of the Swiss scene, after some years to turn together he decides to retire himself of this project and initiates another one with Peruvian musicians, the group “Ceviche Mixto” and would be play fundamentally “Criolla and afro-Peruvian” music. With the passage of time the group becomes the Peruvian but popular grouping of Switzerland and Holland; they just don’t play Peruvian music but alk kinds of rythms, through cumbia, vallenato, salsa, merengue, pop and rock.

With “Ceviche Mixto” he obtains a high degree of popularity, making tours on Switzerland, Holland, Germany, Italy but without getting to record any CD with own material. Through “Ceviche” he can get in touch with all the Latin musical movement in Switzerland,
participates in several projects. He played with Lucy Acevedo at the great Paleo Festival in Nyon and makes a tour by Holland with her.

Meanwhile, in an accidental form and thanks to the Internet, Raul receives many messages of old “fans" who ask him for new material and also letting him know that in remote places (New York, Tokyo, Oslo) the music of Raul is listened. All this and some concerts in his native Arequipa, where it receives the affection of his people and who show to him that they have not forgotten him, motivate him to make a new musical project, a new CD with his music.

Step by step he compose the material, arranging it, recording it in his house, until 2005 he goes to the studio to record “Cosas Raras” his last musical delivery. He is already 11 years outside of his land and maturity it’s show in all its context. An album with more rock, compare with the old ones, Raul sings his European experiences, his learning, his melancholy but also the joy of to have been able to obtain many things in a totally other people's country, as much in language, customs, like in culture. Taking care of each detail of this album, Raul wants to send a message to the wind to be listened and not to live on the memories but rather to think about the future and enjoying the present, a present in where the harmony must reign in spite of any difference….
