Ray Jozwiak – Black & White Then Back

‘Black & White Then Back’ is an enigmatic little ride across the keys of a piano. This is the sixth album by piano composer Ray Jozwiak, a musician based out of Baltimore, Maryland.

The album starts off with the digital-only release track entitled “Cheer.” From the first note we are swept off our feet by a sultry sound of tantalizing notes and dashing fingers. The album’s mood is kept consistent throughout all ten tracks. The music engulfs you and the notes just relax your body. It doesn’t overwhelm the room with sound and as a result it plays well in the foreground or as background music while you perform other tasks.

Something happened to me while listening to this album. I tried to imagine a scene in which this music would be performed. Soon, I found myself dining at a luxury restaurant with a woman dressed in red. The lights were dim and in the background Ray is on the piano playing pieces from this album. Ray’s music coupled with the scene really set the stage for romance. The scene was pretty much perfect.

I pondered if I would have had this thought while listening to any other type of music? I don’t think it would have been the case. It was a very unique scenario. A scenario brought to life by a different type of sound; the sound of truly beautiful music.

Summary: A different genre of music than I originally get to enjoy. I am glad Ray came to me with this album and I was able to experience it!
