ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ray Montford unveils his sixth album, a fragile balance, his most cinematic to date. Beginning with the haunting melody of Honour This Land, the album builds to a peak of rock orchestration in the epic When Darkness Takes Flight, propelled by powerful drumming reminiscent of the late John Bonham. Dynamically recorded with sparse arrangements and great sonics, the result is a cohesive tale of a mature artist. This is instrumental music that commands to be heard - at a healthy volume - offering a depth that will reveal new insights with each listen.

Short Bio

Ray Montford engages the senses as he puts out the powerful grooves and liquid guitar tones that mark his narrative style. Throughout six independent albums, his heart has remained loyal to the rock influences he loves while incorporating the sounds of jazz / blues / roots and world music that continue to inspire him. Consistently, audiences rave about Ray's "emotional, intimate, powerful and haunting" music and performances.

For more than 15 years Ray's dynamic group of Canada's best known players have shared their visceral energy with thousands of fans at music festivals, clubs and theatres. They have toured Europe, shared the stage with the Tony Levin Band (alumnae of Peter Gabriel) and recently sold out the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto for the release of Ray's latest CD, a fragile balance, also available on 180 gram vinyl.

Writings by Serge Kozlovsky
Ray Montford is a beautiful melodist. His music captivates the listener from the first seconds and does not let him off till last ones. Ray Montford’s guitar melodies are very expressive and emotional. The artist gives freedom of his feelings and they spread easily like the flowing of a stormy river which makes foam of its blustery waves. And a great power is hidden in this beautifully crafted music! You will undoubtedly be enchanted by Ray Montford’s passionate compositions.

This is the music of an ever-changing world. And you can see all the beauty of it with shocking and impressive guitar and great storytelling by Ray Montford. Each of his composition is a particular novel which must be listened to very attentively. “A Fragile Balance” is an excellent gift for the fastidious music gourmet!
