Album Notes
Rodney Cordner and Jean-Pierre Rudolph are perhaps one of the most unique acoustic-duos around, combining the wit of the Irish with the no-nonsense romance of the French.

They came together in 1981 and since then have toured extensively throughout Europe, the USA and also visited South Africa. Playing in almost every type of venue. These venues have included the MEAN FIDDLER club in London, MONTREUX Jazz festival, Switzerland, Finlandia Hall, Helsinki, GREENBELT Arts festival, England and the FABRIK in Hamburg.

Their music is Irish folk and contemporary material in the celtic style with a little swing jazz thrown in for good measure. On stage they use fiddle, guitar, flute, mandolin, tin-whistles and bodhran to perform traditional and original songs, strongly laced with humour and audience participation.

Rodney Cordner, Jean-Pierre Rudolph - Milestones
Published Wednesday 1st August 2007

STYLE: Roots/Acoustic

Reviewed by David Faulkner
Richard Thompson once sang of the journey 'From Galway To Graceland'. Cordner and Rudolph have been making the trip from Portadown to Strasbourg for a few decades now. This 2001 compilation is an excellent introduction to their art. There are judicious covers (including Gordon Lightfoot, Ralph McTell and Johnny Cash), traditional songs, instrumentals, social commentary and riotous originals such as "Fiddle Sticks", about a Chinese meal. All these get the Cordner voice and guitar, ruggedly dovetailing with Rudolph's dazzling violin work. It's one of those can't-go-wrong releases. A sheer joy thoroughly recommended for those with a taste for the Irish folk tradition.
