Akathist to the Mother of God
tracks 1 to 26

The Three Canons Before Communion (To the Lord Jesus Christ, to the Mother of God, to the Guardian Angel)
tracks 27 to 37

The Akathist and Three Canons are part of the traditional prayers of preparation for Holy Communion for Orthodox Christians. May the music recorded here inspire you to keep these prayers on your lips and in your heart.

The musical setting of the liturgical texts is from the Russian tradition as adapted by an English speaking parish of the Bulgarian Diocese of the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

Recorded September 4/17, 2011
on the feast day of the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “The Unburnt Bush”
by Readers of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church
Allston, MA
Bulgarian Diocese of the U.S., Canada, and Australia

Produced and Mastered by Richard Roberson,
Dean, School of the Arts, Messiah College

Text of the Akathist to the Mother of God originally printed in the Jordanville Prayer Book.
Translation by Archimandrite Lazarus Moore. (Holy Trinity Monastery Jordanville, New York) 1960.
Text of the Three Canons originally printed in The Three Canons Before Communion

“It is with justice and truth that we call
the holy Mary the Mother of God.
For this name embraces
the whole mystery of the dispensation.”
