ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
About the Psalms Project
“Your statutes have been my songs." -Psalm 119:54

The Christian church has long had an indecisive relationship with the Psalms. Some denominations sing them exclusively; others dismiss the Psalms as awkward or irrelevant. While the debate is important, we at Reclaimed Praise hope to see the Psalms Project benefit churches that fall everywhere on the spectrum. We value the Psalms and believe the church should sing them today; we aim to encourage the use of God’s songbook.

The task of Psalm-setting is a decisively meticulous one. From metrical Psalms to chant-like text-preserving settings, many approaches to making the Psalms singable have emerged. We in no way claim to have discovered the best way to accomplish this task. We have instead joined the growing stream of experimenting musicians who want to see the Psalms used in the praise of our Sovereign Creator. Each of the songwriters represented here have approached the task quite differently. This aesthetic variety is indicative of nothing less than the immense diversity found in Christ’s church.

We hope that you will find these settings beneficial both for personal use and for employment in your local church. The Psalms Project is the initial movement within the Reclaimed Praise community, and this EP is a rough snapshot of what we aim to accomplish in this effort. We want to be found obediently singing the psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs that we are called to use in the praise of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the supreme aesthetic standard. We hope you’ll join us...
