Album Notes
Digiproach Media Design presents the debut album from Red Foss, entitled "Country Music Man." Singer-songwriting and innovative electronic production combine on this colorful record to formulate a broad tapestry of sound that makes a lasting impression on the listener. Though the tracks on this LP were initially written with just an acoustic guitar and a pen and pad, the overall execution is anything but country. The union of vocalist Steven Nagy and producers Austin "Smalls" Hanson and Jeff "DVST8" Hayes, proves to be an eclectic collaboration. Without a doubt, each contributor brings something to the table, and all respectively shine in their area of expertise. The dark songwriting and lyrical poise of Nagy is the constant that melds the eleven tracks into a cohesive journey that spans various genres. Tracks such as "Country Music Man," "Oklahoma City County Jail" and "Just Enough" display the soulful country music influence. On the other hand, "Spring Song," "Body Drama" and "Thousand Feet High" provide a hi-fi psychedelic sound-scape of electronic synthesis and laid back drum programming. Nagy's satirical vocals on songs such as "Thank You" and "Frankie Got Shot" is both potent and striking, providing imagery that will induce a wide spectrum of emotions reminiscent of a modern day Johnny Cash. In addition, the edgy guitar riffs, smooth bass lines and spacious drums that are laced throughout the album, provide a gritty element to an otherwise high definition production. This mix of live instrumentation and digital sound design provides an uncanny balance to "Country Music Man's" unpredictable song format. With an ironic title like "Country Music Man," this first outing by Red Foss may deceive at first glance, but don't be mislead. What lies beneath the surface is an abstract kaleidoscope of musical textures that breaks barriers. This album truly is a "New World Of Sound."
