Keepin' It Fresh, Keepin' It Simple!
The prolific Reynold Philipsek is back again with ten new tunes featuring five gypsy jazz instrumentals and five soulful pop ditties. Although Reynold has become established as a highly-regarded disciple of the "Django Reinhardt sound" I always welcome his clever pop-rock stylings combined with his charming vocals. There's plenty of both represented here to keep all fans satisfied. A stand-out instrumental is Tango Blue with its pleasing chord changes which for some reason brings to mind the quieter moments of one Todd Rundgren. Gotham is a punchy toe-tapper that bops step for step with the thump of a metropolitan rush hour while Bohemian Flats provides a relaxing place to simply chill. There's a certain optimistic twist to the vocal tracks that can't help but pick up your mood, especially the ebullient Wonder Why and the philosophical title track. The album closes with the meditative Pavane. Reynold Philipsek is a wonderful example of the persevering soul who continues to create catchy and memorable music. Keep on sowin' those musical seeds Reynold...
