Rickey Grundy author of gospel hit "Can't Stop Praising His Name" is still on the gospel mainstream. The current CD "T E S T I M O N Y" has stayed true to the flavor Grundy brings to the marketplace. Grundy tours and teaches in parts of the U.S.,Europe, Australia, Africa, the Carribean, and many other places across the globe.
He is also the Music Director and background vocalist with the legendary Andrae' Crouch. Song number one "I Was Glad" on the new Crouch CD "MIGHTY WIND" on the Verity/Zomba label was penned by Grundy. He adds piano, strings, and vocal arrangements to many of the selections featured as well.
As a native of Los Angeles, California Rickey's musical gift made a stand at age 4. Graduating from High School at age fifteen he continued his studies at the University of Southern California Conservatory of Music, to Cal State Long Beach, and Roosevelt University in Chicago. His experience and musical knowledge landed him a choral teaching position at California State University of Irvine for two years.
His history starts as far back as 1980 with Keith Pringle's "True Victory" album, and has worked with the likes of Reverend James Cleveland, Thomas Whitfield, Andrae Crouch, Yolanda Adams, Buster and Shavoni, and Clifton Davis, Crystal Lewis, Dr. Bobby Jones, Angela Winbush, Natalie Cole, Brenda Russell, Jennifer Holiday, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Tremaine Hawkins, and Edwin and Walter Hawkins to name a few. The musical genius has written numerous hits for past record label Sparrow Records. As an icon in the GMWA National Mass Choir Rickey has facilitated numerous music workshops.
During the year of 1989 Grundy signed with Sparrow Records and delivered two projects: self -entitled "The Rickey Grundy Chorale," and "Spirit Come Down." The overwhelming response from these projects led to concerts, tours and seminars abroad including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Southern and Western Africa, Brazil, Jamaica, and various regions of the Caribbean, Switzerland, and Canada. Feature appearances have included the American Music Awards, Grammy's, The Stellar Awards, The Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theater, and Magic Mountain Theme Park. Grundy represented Lawry's Season Salt as the "Lawry's Seasonal Singers" and represented the gospel community in a Dr. Pepper commercial.
Grundy has placed songs on The Wilmington Chester Mass Choir current release that features "Take You All The Way" ministered by Angela Spivey, and "Strong" ministered by Bruce Parham. Additional projects include GMWA Minneapolis 2001 Mass Choir, Peggy Britt, Andrae Crouch, new releases by Ann Nesby and John P. Kee (forthcoming), as well as movie releases with music scores that include "Gigli", The Fighting Temptations, and check out movie release where Grundy is featured starring Tom Hanks and Marlon Wayans entitled "The LadyKillers".
