ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Op! offers music from all countries, periods and musical styles, just like a live performance of the Ricciotti ensemble. The repertoire travels from baroque to fusion, from opera to film music, from jazz to tango and from latin to avant-garde. Moreover five pieces were composed especially for Ricciotti. In addition to that, four of our star soloists from the last few years contribute to the album: each of them shines with a piece they performed on tour with Ricciotti.
In a cave, an orphanage, a prison, a centre for asylum seekers but also in front of a windmill or underneath the Eiffel Tower: you might run into the Ricciotti ensemble in the strangest locations. ‘Everywhere, for everyone’ is our slogan.
The street symphony orchestra Ricciotti was founded in 1970 and consists of forty young, enthusiastic musicians. Its aim is to bring live symphonic music for those who do not usually have the opportunity to experience it. The Ricciotti is unique in its flexibility: a space of six by eight metres meets all requirements. The musicians play standing up and the entire orchestra set-up time takes just two minutes. Thanks to this speed, Ricciotti can give several performances per day. During twenty-five touring days each year, the orchestra will play at least a hundred times for the broadest audience imaginable.
Op! is the first studio record in the illustrious history of the Ricciotti ensemble. Well away from gusts of wind, low ceilings that destroy acoustics, traffic noise and an audience merrily singing along; for once, it is good to have it that way. Nonetheless, we perform a great variety of music, just as we do during our live concerts. Op! in your living room: enjoy.
