This “Wild & Crazy Holiday Songs” Cd features Christmas and Holiday songs that include a lot of science and loads of humor. Whether it's the layers of the atmosphere (Santa's Bad Hair Day), Bernoulli's Principle and Reindeer facts (It's Raining Reindeer), the water cycle and the different phases of matter (Funky Snowman), physics in general (Santa's Got The Science Thing Down), work and machines (iElf), or just plain fun (Twas The Night Before Christmas Rock) and the song for all teachers this time of year (Teacher's Winter Break Song), this Cd uses the spirit of the holidays to entertain and educate the whole family.
I’m Rick Quarles and I’ve been the Singing Science Teacher for 17 years now. I’ve been featured on a major university’s Integrated Science Program videos that are broadcast throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada. I’ve taught both 6th and 7th grade science (life and physical as well as general science) and Social Studies. I’ve always enjoyed doing activities and labs with my students as well as entertaining them with music and involving them with musical science skits. My original songs include a lot of science vocabulary and concepts in physical, earth, and life science set to all kinds of musical styles – rock n’ roll, rhythm and blues, country, bluegrass, blues, rap, and even easy listening. Teachers use the songs for instruction and reinforcement during the labs and activities. They also use them in musical science skits and plays. Students can even make up verses and dances to them. These songs are for all ages – children, parents, and teachers. My background in playing with various bands over the years, my interest in science, and my humor (one of my favorite authors was Shel Silverstein) gives me resources to write and record science and nature songs that are a little different from the norm. That’s why I call my series of Cds “Science On The Wild Side”.
