This bluesmusician from Haarlem, The Netherlands, was born in 1969. Robbert is a singer and plays harmonica and guitar. He started his musical 'career' in 1987 and played in several bands.
Recently he started his own new band "The Robbert Fossen Bluesband". A six piece band that plays modern and "old school" Chicago Blues. Robbert played in 2006 in a tour as harmonicaplayer with former Muddy Waters- and Magic Slim- sideman John Primer from Chicago.
Robberts influences are Muddy Waters, Magic Slim,
John Primer, Luke Longgone Miles, Taildragger, Buddy Guy, Lightnin' Slim, Jerry Portnoy, Little Walter and Big Walter. He shared the stage with John Primer, Nick Holt (Magic Slims brother), Willie Kent, James Wheeler, Charles Hayes and T Model Ford. June 2007 the band did a short tour with the incredible female singer Melvia "Chick" Rodgers from Chicago. And she will be back for a tour with The Robbert Fossen Blues Band in 2008.
At the end of 2006 Robbert recorded the CD 'Got It Covered', that's released in march 2007. On www.myspace.com/robbertfossen you can see three clips from the CD releaseparty (March 15th 2007) For more info about The Robbert Fossen Blues Band check out www.robbertfossen.nl and/or send an email to email@example.com and/or call Robbert on
-A quote from Chicago:
"I have been lucky in my life for two big reasons, being born and raised in Chicago and being a blues fan. As everyone knows there was no better place to be. Since the late 1960's I have been blessed to have seen all the talent Chicago had to offer from the little or unknown harp player on the Westside to nights of Muddy and Wolf. Being honest things are far different now, It takes much more to get me motivated. Now the clubs offer more blues/rock cliches and tourist driven song lists. But there is hope ! After listening to a copy of the Robbert Fossen Blues Band CD, I must tell you this is definitely one band that would get me out of my easy chair to check them out. These guys sound like they have that fire within'. That 'feeling' whether it's a Jimmy Rogers' or an original tune comes through. And after listening all these years to all this music the 'feeling' is what really matters and this band has it. Good luck guys."
Rick Kreher (former Muddy Waters' guitarplayer)
(May 2007, Robbert did a show, as harmonicaplayer, in Belgium with Rick Kreher in the band of Charles Hayes)
