Living Proof - Robert Lamm
I find Robert Lamm's new CD "Living Proof" to be filled with interesting lyrics and cutting edge music; his best, in fact, since "Subtlety and Passion". The songs move effortlessly from jazz to pop to ballads and it even includes a tune I would classify borderline rap. In addition to the talents of Robert Lamm, the CD also features the excellence of long time collaborator, Hank Linderman (guitar/vocals), Trent Gardner (production/trombone), and showcases the vocal talents and writing skills of rising star ZoSia Karbowiak (who recently released a Solo Project, S.I.N.G., produced by Robert Lamm and Jason Scheff)

"Out of the Blue" and "Living Proof" (both co-writes w/Gardner) could be incorporated into a "Chicago" CD since musically it brings to mind the "Chicago" Sound...perhaps it's the addition of the horns, specifically the trombone. "Arise" is an uplifting song of hope, someone coming out of the dark....featuring Lamm on lead vocals and Karbowiak on background vocals(she is also the co-writer). "4 Bells" seems very sad to me although from what I have read about the song, that was not the intention, but none the less that was the feeling it gave me....saying goodbye and looking back on life. "On The Equinox" and the remix bonus track of the same, along with "Keep The Faith"(co-write w/ Linderman) have a very contemporary style....almost a jive/rap; one searching for balance, the other encouraging forward movement and not to look back. "Those Crazy Things" is a brilliant pop duet featuring Lamm and Karbowiak sharing lead vocals. I had heard the demo a couple years ago for "I Confess" and was glad to see it was finished here with classic Lamm vocals and piano. Lastly ZoSia has lead vocals on an absolutely beautiful number (a bonus track) she again co-wrote with Lamm "Liquid Sky"...one of my favorites on the CD.

I definitely give this a five star and highly recommend the music. A great listen.
