"Navigator" is the debut country album and musical jouney from songwriter Robert Parish - and includes award winning songs "If You Called Me Today", "Fat Bottom Sally", "Austin City Limit Sign", and "A Lifetime In Your Arms" - along with some other great, rolicking two-stepping tunes, sounds from hand-clapping gospel churches, the sultry noise of The Big Easy, the joy of new love found - and the ache of old love lost.
Born on the bayous in south Louisiana, Robert Parish wrote his first song, "Louisiana Moon" at the age of 15. Surrounded by Cajun music, food, and flavor, he soaked up the influences that would later help to paint his words and color his phrases. Moving to the great music city of Austin, Texas at the age of 20, Robert began to expand his music and songwriting - influenced by acclaimed local and national artists, many of which he has come to know and love. After winning his first songwriting award in 2003, Robert began to hone his craft and was fortunate to work with some incredible writers - artists like Anna Wilson, Mady Kaye, Dallas Seely, Celia Dufresne and many others - leading to more awards and recognition. His work also led him to the door of Merel Bregante, formerly of "Loggins and Messina" and "The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band", chief engineer and owner of Digital Cribworks Audio in Austin, Texas. After hearing Robert's music, Merel offered to record and produce what was to become three years later a rockin' labor of love entitled "Navigator"!
"Navigator" showcases some of the best artists in the Austin area - Cindy Cashdollar from Asleep at the Wheel, Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly, Sarah Pierce, April Hall, Kenny Grimes, Carl LoShiavo, The Strange Brothers, Riley Osborn, Dallas Seely, Celia Dufresne - and even drumstick-wielding ol' Merel himself! So navigate towards the Caribbean to lose your blues in "Cancun". Grab your beads and your umbrella and dance down Rue de Bourbon for Mardi Gras in "King Cake". Float on the sweet current of beautiful memories in "Big Alabama Bayou" or drown some heartache in "No Salt, Please (On My Margarita)". Shake it till you break it with two wild women - "Madame Thibodeaux" and "Fat Bottom Sally". Then top it off with a hand-clapping visit to church in "Can I Get An Amen" and listen to some college sorority girls hunt down some beaus and bucks in "Boyfriend Season". "Navigator" is truly a trip you won't soon forget!
