"Rocketboat has solar sails and Rocketboat is not for sale" sings the chorus of the band's title track. Natives of Northwest Indiana, the band mixes punk rock with classical and jazz influences.
Rocketboat came together in 2011 when its members—lead vocalist/keyboardist Collin Magdaz, bassist Josh Hanchar, guitarist Marc Adrian, and drummer Andrew Dumaresq—were teaching at the same music school.
In Summer 2012, before ever even playing a show together, Rocketboat released its first single "Who Cares?" along with a self produced music video featuring the band switching roles with some of their students in a nod to nostalgia. Later that year, the band released "Rocketboat" the self titled, full length debut album mixed by Sean O'Keefe (Plain White T's, Fall Out Boy).
To promote their new album, Rocketboat hit the stage at many of Chicago's essential rock clubs including The Metro, The Double Door, Hard Rock Cafe, Martyr's, Schuba's, Abbey Pub, and Elbo Room.
In Summer 2013, the band released its second music video, this time using green screens, construction paper, and animation to portray their quirky, romantic song "Lauraine". In Spring 2014, actor and Icelandic native Peter Stormare (Big Lebowski, Fargo, Armageddon) recently featured Rocketboat on his label's "Ramases: Complete Discography"
Fresh off the recent releases of both a blog and a podcast—and in addition to constantly writing and recording new music—the members of Rocketboat are always trying to push the limits of what a band can do. As proof, both a graphic novel and a full length video game are both currently in production by members of the band. Both of these projects draw heavily from
the "Rocketboat Universe"—a fictional narrative established by the band's lyrics.
