“Today Is My Dancing Day”, is my new music CD Album. There are nine ensemble pieces performed by “The Roger Anderson Consort” and four piano solo pieces composed and performed by Roger Alden Anderson.
Six of the ensemble pieces were created to reflect the spirit and style of individual drawings of dancers that I created. These pieces then act as accompaniments for live dancers that will then interpret the spirit and energy of the drawings in performance. The over all style of music is a unique blending of both Jazz, Classical and cultural musical styles.
Each of the six pieces that correspond to a Dancer Drawing reflects the underlying style of that figure, such as “Dancing Kimono”, having an Asian feel. And “Spanish Dancer” having a Spanish feel in an odd meter of 7/8. Also there are two vastly different waltzes, one which derives most of its energy from a continuous heart beat, hence the name “Heart Waltz” and the last Waltz, called “Freed Spirit Waltz”, which freely flows through both Major and minor tonalities.
The creative process through which all of the ensemble pieces were created, was a true collaboration involving collective improvisation. Some Short sketches were created in advance but then quickly evolved with the spontaneous energy of the whole Consort in the moment in a single three hour session.
Consort: Roger Alden Anderson--Piano and Flute, Christian Lopez--Cello, Christopher Demcak--Banjo, Guitar, Clayton Payne--Percussion.
All Of the solo piano pieces were created in one hour, through complete improvisation with no editing.
