author: NORTH SHORE NEWS
If you groove to many of the popular oldies from the '50s, '60's and '70's with pure harmony and sliding
bass notes then you'll want to add Mister Bass Man Swings Low to your collection! Roger takes one
dozen of those early songs and arranges them to accommodate his unique style. You'll enjoy; Old Man
River, Sixteen Tons, King of the Road, Elvira, Under the Boardwalk, as well as another half dozen
favorite selections. This CD showcases the flair and talent of this very unique bass singer!

My thanks to the website and mr. Roger Kurt personally for making available the songs done by truly
male voice, there aren't many you can hear lately. Great and lirics as well.

"If you would like to hear classic "Oldies Songs" of the 50's,60's & 70's sung by one of the
LOWEST VOICES you might ever hear ... then check my CDs out !!!!!
I was born in Los Angeles, California and spent my early childhood in San Diego, California. I moved to Hawaii
in 1966 where I attended St. Joseph's Elementary School, Damien High School, and later graduated from the
University of Hawaii with a degree in Psychology.
My musical training started with piano lessons. Later, I began playing the coronet and the trumpet while still
living in San Diego. I received twelve years of private lessons through the Cody School of Music in San Diego.
During that period, I performed in a 300-piece concert orchestra and also played in a dance/swing/jazz
ensemble. After moving to Hawaii, I taught himself how to play both classical and electric guitar. I played in
various rock groups during and after my college days. More recently, I began performing as a singer. I have
received vocal training through the Sounds of Aloha Barbershop Chorus and I have also received private
As a singer, I have performed with the Sounds of Aloha Chorus, The Singers of Hawaii, the fifties group, The
Love Notes, and most recently with the acappella group, Shakapella - which I co-founded.
""The Higher Powers" have blessed me with a unique and distinctive voice, which is rarely heard! My voice
is unusually low and resonant. I sing in the register of a Contra Bass or a "Russian" Bass, which is an octave
lower than a traditional bass singer and two octaves lower than a baritone singer.
Having grown tired of hearing songs constantly sung by high pitched male singers, I have begun the
"mission" of furthering the cause of the forgotten bass singers of the world! In light of this "mission," I have
recently produced three of my own solo CDs where the bass singer gets all of the leads! I did all of the
recording and engineering myself and I played all of the instruments you hear on the CDs. I am also
responsible for most of the musical arrangements on the CDs. By day, I am a School Social Worker working
with Autistic kids .... which is rewarding but, doesn't pay much!!! That is why I have done all of the
recording, producing, etc. myself. I therefore apologize for any poor musical quality on the backup tracks! I
just don't have the kind of budget that allows me to use top dollar recording studios! My main forte is my
voice. I don't claim to have the "greatest voice on earth" but ...It may be "ONE OF THE LOWEST VOICES ON
The first song on my most popular CD, "Mr. Bass Man's Back!" is an original song which I performed on the
popular TV show Hawaii Stars, where I was a finalist in 1998. These are my first steps towards a solo singing
