‘The Cat’s Whiskers’ Suite (for Acoustic Steel String Guitar) is a new work by Roland Chadwick rooted in Anglo/American Folk traditions built to Classical proportions.
The 5 pieces of this suite were written over a 20-year period in Australia, the USA and England and have individually been a mainstay of Roland’s live set but now have been brought together as a major concert work.
The second piece, ‘Betty Keft’ was written in a kitchen near Nowra on the south coast of NSW, Australia. The Kitchen belonged to Betty Keft. It begins with a simple plaintive melody and this phrase along with it’s answering phrase goes through stages of development until a natural conclusion is reached but wait … there’s more … the guitar now grows in stature until it becomes a full orchestra reaching a massive climax.
