Rosa Lamoreaux â€“ soprano- has been hailed for her versatile musicianship, her radiant, engaging, and effortless singing, the diversity of her repertoire, and her many fine recordings. An award-winning vocalist with a busy international career, Ms. Lamoreaux is sought after for her beautifully styled readings of repertoire from Hildegard to Shostakovich.
After winning the Handel Aria Competition at the Aspen Music Festival and as finalist in the Oratorio Society Competition of New York, her career has taken her to Royal Albert Hall, London, Usher Hall Edinburgh, Carnegie Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Kennedy Center among others. She has been soloist with the Atlanta Symphony and the Cincinnati Symphony with the late Robert Shaw, in performances of the B minor Mass of Bach and Mozartâ€™s Mass in C minor. Recent performances include the Gloria of Handel at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, Shostakovich 14th Symphony with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, St. John Passion of Bach at the Washington National Cathedral, Barberâ€™s Knoxville Summer of 1915, Messiah, and The Magic Flute with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, and numerous recitals at the National Gallery of Art. As a popular chamber music musician she is the Artistic Director of the National Gallery of Art Vocal Ensemble, and also sings with the Folger Consort, ArcoVoce, Hesperus, has toured with Musicians from Marlboro, and has been featured in concerts in Italy with musicians from the Carmel Bach Festival.
A frequent performer in Washington, she recently won a WAMMIE for Best Classical Vocalist, has been a featured guest on WETAâ€™s Dessert Island Discâ€™s, and many of her recordings and performances have been broadcast on NPR, CBC and the BBC. Her degrees include an Associate of the Royal College of Music, London, England, and Master of Music, University of Redlands, School of Music. Betty Bullock, pianist
Pianist Betty Bullock is equally at home in the worlds of classical music and the lighter repertoire of cabaret and music theater. She is active as a collaborative pianist in a wide variety of venues. This season, she has performed with soprano Rosa Lamoreaux in concerts in New Mexico and in Virginia. She has also performed at the new Music Center at Strathmore, the German Embassy, and the U.S. Supreme Court in a program of excerpts from Wagner operas.
This versatile musician has worked as a coach/accompanist for more than 20 seasons at the Washington Opera, and has been involved in recent years in the musical preparation of many operatic works for a variety of conductors, including Elektra, Salome, Turandot, Simon Boccanegra, Tristan und Isolde, Parsifal, Der Rosenkavalier, and Die WalkÃ¼re under the baton of Music Director Heinz Fricke.
In the summers, Ms. Bullock has taught at both the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria and at the University of Miamiâ€™s Summer Institute for Singers and Pianists in Salzburg, Austria. She has performed in Austria and Germany, and for five summers took part in a music festival in the CÃ´te Chalonnaise region of France.
She has degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and has also studied at the Mozarteum Music Academy in Salzburg and at the Hochschule fÃ¼r Musik in Munich on a grant from the German government. She won the Franz Schubert Prize for Accompanists at the Schubert Institut in Baden bei Wien, Austria.
