Album Notes
Great new album by this Australian rock'n'roll icon, produced in Nashville by another legendary Aussie Mark Moffatt. The album follows Ross' hugely successful '5 Decades of Cool' shows last year, and is a defining career statement from a still vital artist whose true influence is only now beginning to be realized. A strong rock record with just a touch of country, "I Come In Peace" shows exactly why Ross Wilson should be viewed as Australia's own John Fogerty, Mick Jagger and Delbert McClinton, all rolled into one. Best known for fronting and leading both DADDY COOL ('Eagle Rock', 'Come Back Again', Hi Honey Ho') - who broke all sales records for an Australian artist in the 70's - and MONDO ROCK in the 80s ('Come Said The Boy', 'Cool World'), Ross also wrote hits for John Farnham ('A Touch OF Paradise'), produced ALL of Skyhooks seminal work, discovered Jo Jo Zep & the Falcons and the Sports, and has been acknowledged in print as an influential figure by international artists including Elton John and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. 'I Come In Peace' is the kind of accomplished and career defining work - an encapsulation of everything that's gone before - that will finally see him get his due as an artist.

It's not surprising that the opening track, an instant rocker, may conjure Bob Dylan and his Modern Times record. Wilson accomplishes the same level of excellence with this collection, a rich, honest and often raw record which casts a wise middle-aged eye on rock's usual subjects and finds something beautifully simple to say about it all. Let's hope we can all rock with as much conviction in our sixties.
Verdict: Emotive
