ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Welcome to the world of Blue Corn and Red Earth! Native American Music Award nominee Ronald Roybal performs original contemporary native flute chants against lush, rhythmic arrangements as well as classical guitar and native flute duets. Special guest performer Blue Spruce Standing Deer offers traditional style drumming and vocals. Together they paint a beautiful and descriptive soundscape of the land of enchantment that beckons the listener to return again and again. Blue Corn, Red Earth was nominated Best New Age Recording in the 2002 Native American Music Awards!

Ronald Roybal is a native of the American Southwest. A descendent of Spanish Colonial and Pueblo (Tewa) peoples, he considers his ability to express both sides of his heritage to be a great gift and responsibility. A completely self-taught musician, Ronald has studied music since his youth and is widely respected as a master performer of the Native American flute as well as the Spanish style guitar.

In addition to guitar and flute, he enjoys Pow Wow singing and dancing. He has been nominated for six Native American Music Awards including Best Instrumental Album (Suite Santa Fe), Best Native Flutist of the Year (Visions of the Fourth World), Best World Music Recording and Best Latin Recording (Eagle's Journey Into Dawn) and Best New Age Recording (Blue Corn, Red Earth). He has been featured twice on National Public Radio's Performance Today program for his performance at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival's Salute to Indian Art Market.

He makes his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he performs extensively at area hotels, resorts, restaurants and civic events. In addition to performance, Ronald successfully operates his own recording studio and record label.

If you like your flute with enchantment, check this album out.
The effect is evocative, with soaring, peaceful melodies that seem to sing of the beauty and expansiveness of the West.

An exciting, imaginative album
This CD has everything you would want in a Native American themed album. Exciting drumming with flute, beautiful and romantic classical guitar and flute duets, powerful traditional drumming and singing. After listening to this album, I feel like I have taken a journey to Taos!
