ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Reckless, unconventional, dangerous - and BEAUTIFULLY PERFECT! Each of these words describes Roy Meriwether's style on this recording. Recorded in 1975, still relatively early in his career, Roy masterfully combines classic jazz standards with popular melodies of the day. The interesting thing is, the songs he selected are still classics today - and the way he delivers them brings out the best in each one.

This recording was not planned and you can tell that from the sometimes amateur-like quality of the sound, undoubtedly unmixed and captured spontaneously. But that only adds to the excitement of this CD. It is like hearing something that no one else has heard - a secret glimpse into a forgotten world that only now existed in the memories of a small few. Once you hear it you will think, "If only I could have been there." It is that good!

Roy's music has a way of touching fans of traditional jazz as well as those who don't like jazz, or think they don't. His set here is a balanced blend of jazz, blues, R&B, soul and funk. Call it smooth jazz, before there was smooth jazz!

For real music lovers, this CD promises to be a real find! And a find it was... Lost for over 30 years, this music was recently discovered and released. Take an old school trip back to Gordy's and enjoy a fabulous night with Roy Meriwether Live!
