ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
GyeNyamE, the first CD offering by the young Ghanaian master drummer Saeed Abbas is a tribute to the many musical traditions of his country. His joy and passion ring out in powerful and breathtaking percussion. His flute laces over the top of a musical tapestry; sometimes light, sometimes soulful. The bell drives hard pushing drum and rattle forward. It is earthy and primal. It lifts the spirit. You will want to dance.

Abbas performs all parts himself; the Talking Drum, Kpanlogo Drums, Klinkele Drum, Calabash Rattle, Cowbell and Antentenben Flute and Vocals.

Saeed Abbas learned the Talking Drum as a child from his grandfather and the elders of the Hausa tribe. At 19, he auditioned into the premier Ghana Dance Ensemble soon becoming their master drummer. He has performed throughout the world for many dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II, Tony Blair, and Bill and Hilary Clinton.

A true master of his craft!
Saeed is an amazing percussionist and this is a fantastic CD! My favorite is Percussion from Kano with a beat that never fails to make me move. Saeed’s gift is infectious. I’ve seen him perform a number of times and there’s no doubt he’s a true master of his craft.
