ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Sad Little Stars are a 5-piece art pop band based in Brooklyn, NY. They perform frenetic new wave influenced rock with the energy of a high school pep squad on speed.

For Live-ish: The Official Anthem of These Outer Spaces, The Sad Little Stars have taken their live band into the studio to record explosive versions of tracks from both of their previous albums: The Stars Below and The Stop Motion Breakdown. Adding a new song and a dynamic cover of Roxy Music's "Whirlwind", Live-ish is a raw and powerful musical experience.

The Sad Little Stars actively tour the east coast and have performed CMJ 2003-2008. Their music video for “Don’t Fuck With Love” has been featured on the Independent Film Channel and continues to tour the globe with various film festivals including Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted. It has won awards including best music video at The Animation Block Party in New York, best music video at the Golden Star Shorts Festival in Los Angeles and second place for best music video at 2006 SXSW to name a few.

It's tough to nail this Brooklyn five-piece down: part '81-era CBGB's/New Wave/NY art rock and part present day fun-as-heck unhinged punky pop, they cover a lot of ground, shoving guitars in your face and then mopping up the sweat with carefully executed male/female vocals that play off each other as much as they complement. It sounds like a lot to take in, and it is, but they're careful not to overdo it. On this stripped-down recording that falls somewhere between EP and LP, they use hard-driving beats as a foundation, layering synth and guitar on top in thick but distinct waves, allowing the shifting vocal styles to ultimately determine the feel and direction of each song. The recording approach ("live-ish," if you didn't catch that) instantly adds a rawness to the songs that equals more energy, more spontaneity, and an album that'll keep you on your toes, never knowing what's going to kick in next.
